Amazon has the Switch for $260 today, down from $300... trying to figure out if this is a fleeting interest or if I should go for it.
My GameCube has been working off an on so I've been enjoying Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask is on Switch, so is Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess haven't been ported yet. Hmm...Last edited by TheElectricCompany; 05-11-2022, 11:36 AM."Why is that mirror sneezing?"

There's room for both reading and video games in this world of ours.
Some will choose/prefer one over the other.
Some will find a personal balance between the two.
Some will choose/prefer neither.
Having said that, I grew up in the golden age of home video game systems and the glory days of the arcades. I can clearly remember begging my parents for an Atari 2600 for Christmas back in 1981. We were a lower income family, so nothing was a given. Especially, a luxury like a video game system that only my younger sisters and I would use. Well, my parents managed somehow to find a way. More often than not, bless their souls. On that Christmas morning in 1981 there was an Atari 2600 sitting under our tree, and at nine years old my lifelong love of gaming truly began.
Now, reading (and education in general) was just as important and fully encouraged in our household. My sisters and I could all read and write before the age of five. Thanks fully to the nurturing and diligence of those same parents that later bought us that Atari for Christmas. One did not negate or diminish the importance or enjoyment of the other. Once the foundations are laid, the key is finding the balance that suits you personally.
Video games have far surpassed the the old blips and blocks of that 2 bit era. While I'm not as highly versed in the most current generation of gaming systems, I've witnessed this evolution firsthand. My last new console was an Xbox 360, actually two of them that each bricked themselves. I still consider myself an original old school console gamer. I grew up with good ole cartridges and disks. The idea of the games themselves existing only the in the cloud, (without any ownership/control of any physical media) doesn't sit so well with me. I still have all of our old cartridges and disks, and some of our old consoles. I love the fact that when the mood hits me, I can bust out an ancient system, and play the old games just for the fun and nostalgia it brings me.
The puzzle solving aspects, the hand-eye coordination, and the vast rich worlds that programmers have created over the years can engage one's imagination just as much as immersing oneself in a good book.
Why not have the best of both worlds?Kevin

Which is what was understood and generally agreed upon, except one folk who figured games are "TOTALLY different from reading."

It sounds like you're assuming having a visual presentation is a crutch and not an artistic asset. I'm another voracious reader, but games like Journey, Rime, and Gris have hit me harder than any book I've read (to the point that, though I'd like to, I can't replay Rime because it's just so goshdarn depressing). All of which have super-simple mechanics, absolutely gorgeous art styles, incredible soundtracks, and convey their meaning/plot with no dialogue or words whatsoever.

WindWaker is still my favorite and it looks stunning, remastered in HD. I've still got my fingers crossed for a true HD remaster of OOT and Majora's Mask.link below for my kit build thread

Plus it was cheaper. I'm really hoping the Switch II will have a console-only option and that those games will be available on it. I was surprised how much fun I had going back and playing OOT, it's just such an amazing game. Still plays great other than camera movement.
