Thank you to all who joined us on the Pearl Drummers Forum but we have decided to continue the conversation at the Pearl Drummers Group on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/pearldrummersgroup Although the Pearl Drummers Forum is closed, the content is still searchable as there are many informative threads on Pearl gear. We hope to see you at the Pearl Drummers Group!
I didn't know what a Cobra Coil was so I looked it up. I'm afraid it's yet another drum invention I will have to file in the useless column, at least for me. For the record I have no use for Kickport either.
Not gear related, but I had the pleasure of seeing Primus last night in New Orleans for their “Farewell to Kings” show. They were phenomenal.

Nice! My friend was also in attendance and I was seriously considering buying tickets for the original show months ago before it was rescheduled.
Didn't know you were in Louisiana, Cheez_Whiz

yeah, but I'm the Jeff that Jeff talks about when he talks about "the Jeff" to other Jeffs.
To be fair, I don't think your typical genre of playing (blues, country, rock-a-billy) warrants anything but a simple single drum pedal... not a double pedal, cobra coil, or a Demon Drive.
Speaking of which, I’m kinda falling in love with this pedal:

No doubt, great pedal!

To be fair, I don't think it is ever good to generalize or assume for that matter. Playing a single pedal is as simple or as complex as you care to make it. I've seen some pretty jaw dropping things played on a single pedal that you would have thought the drummer was playing a double.
Lee Kelly's second kick drum with Hank Jr isn't just for show nor do I think Jim Riley's is either. Those are both their latest kits. You might also consider Ben Sesar's kit with Brad Paisley. I don't think the second patch on the kick batter is there for any other purpose than function. I'm sure there are many more "country" drummers who kick twin pedals or bass drums.
Regarding the Demon Drive, a direct drive pedal has a different feel and greater responsiveness than the chain and strap driven pedals that I've been playing for the last 30 or so years. It is reminiscent though of the many Speed Kings I've had under my right foot before that, all those years ago, only better IMHO. You wouldn't believe it but some of the stuff I play actually requires doubles and even triplets on the kick. Your insinuation that I have too much pedal for the music I play is not only unfounded, it is condescending.
I wasn't insinuating, I was being as direct as possible.
You are insulting and assuming as well. The idea is to create a sound. How it is done is simply athletics that for some reason makes some people think you are less of a player if you cannot do it a way the deem respectable.
