Originally posted by skeld-the-wicked View PostGood luck with your new stands Ron. I just put die cast hoops on the Brass Sensitone . Now I have both aluminum and brass. I used to own a classic Sensitone brass classic. I love both of these snares. I have had trouble finding sticks locally so I ordered a brick of Vic firth 5a extreme sticks. The only issue with the brass snare was the vent hole was oval so rather than trying to repair or replace it I just super glued a beauty trim washer over the stock vent. Notice the difference between the aluminum & brass size.
A brick of Vic. Sounds good to me.
Just looking at those snares makes me want to play. Good move on the cast hoops!
The first 150 boom just got here. Based on it (no pun intended) I think I'm going to like the rest of the 150 hardware. Definitely using it as a tripod.Last edited by Ron Gerber; 03-28-2022, 12:42 PM.

Same goes for the old C-855 straight stand.
Agreed, that old tubular hardware was the best!
The 150 boom just got here. On initial examination I like it. First, there is no Crosstown boom so that's a plus right off the bat. Second, although I never felt the brushed aluminum hardware wasn't sturdy, I like Pearl's slightly girthier Convertible hardware better.
I like Yamaha's traditional stand top with cymbal felts and metal wing nuts, etc., but I've chosen to go with the newer Pearl hardware and will have to deal with this reimagined cymbal mount on top of the stand. Who knows, I might end up liking it. Stranger things have happened. Although seriously guys, did we really need to reinvent the wheel?Last edited by Ron Gerber; 03-23-2022, 11:50 AM.

I also prefer playing a 5 piece kit but, beyond that, I like having splashes and a China too.
My current cymbals to play out are Sabian:
22" XSR Monarch
18" HHX Complex Thin Crash or 18" HH
16" HHX Evolution
15" XSR Monarch Hats
18" AA Chinese
10" HHX Evolution Splash
08" AAX Splash inverted over the 10
Basic set-up in louder situations:
22" Istanbul Agop Traditional Dark Ride
18" HHX Complex Thin Crash
14" HHX Stage Hat Top over 14" AAX Stage Hat BottomLast edited by Ron Gerber; 03-28-2022, 01:24 PM.

I dislike heaping praise on another drum manufacturer's product on the PDF but this just arrived:
A Tama Power Pad Designer Series Hardware Bag and it is so cool! Actually, the one that arrived today is black. First, it has great "curb appeal", it's great looking. It's not "ate up" with bulky useless pockets and the canvas material appears rugged enough to handle the Pearl 150 series hardware that I've just switched to using without the wall-to-wall carpeting some case manufacturers think is necessary. It is only big enough though to handle enough hardware for a 4 pc set-up.
No matter, with just those pieces that one bag is heavy enough right there and I need another bag anyway for tom arms, a D1500TGL throne base which is weighty, another C-150S straight stand & another BC-150S boom stand, and any other mishagoss I can think of that will fit. Also "no matter" because each bag costs less than 60 bucks @ at your favorite music retailer.
I just ordered another in beige to tell them apart. These are so much cooler functionally as well as visually than that crummy bag that Yamaha supplies with their Crosstown hardware. Really happy the way this is all coming together.
More Pearl 150 hardware arriving today, the balance Friday or next week.Last edited by Ron Gerber; 03-29-2022, 03:58 PM.

Those are really cool-looking but I have so much HW, I require the SKB hard case I have with wheels and retractable handle. I still have my Protection Racket soft canvas case but no longer use it for transport. Even will wheels, it’s almost useless. SO difficult to move.sigpicStill Way Too Much Crap

Being an old fart I've been on a crusade to lighten the load, streamline set-up & tear-down, and minimize trips to and from the car. These Power Pad cases and the pearl 150 series hardware are going to help me achieve my goal.
Will be listing the Crosstown hardware here locally in the next few days. Yay!Last edited by Ron Gerber; 03-29-2022, 03:46 PM.
