  • Chapin's Independence Book, VOLUME 2???

I just heard about the existence of volume 2 of Chapin's "Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer" (it was a big duhhh moment when I realized that it says "volume 1" on the original). The only place I've seen it for sale is here and it's $120... but from what I gather it's continuing the idea of the first book, but with transparent pages that you can lay on top of each other to create your own exercises... which sounds like a really neat idea with a lot of potential, especially coming from Chapin. I'm wondering if anyone has this book and if I could see a scan of what some of the pages look like? I don't like the idea of investing $120 into a book I've never seen before... but it seems like this could be worthwhile... anyone have it? How deep does it go?

    Thanks.

$120 is insane! I'm interested in it too, but not $120 worth.

Hate to say it, but dont waste your time...

I have it, and its a gazillion pages, and has this outdated feature where you put clear sheets over the others to get new combinations, as well as sheets with cut-outs that you attach to others in the book.

Chapin's first book is great. A true classic. This one is not, especially at over 100 dollars.

I have the book and it is quite the workout to even attempt to get through it all. In fact, by design, there is no getting through it. The so called "outdated feature" allows three pages to be combined in a virtually endless array of possibilities. Hence the subtitle "The Open End". Jim Chapin designed it so that you would never run out of possibilities for challenging material on which to work. I am extremely grateful that I purchased it many years ago, long before the price rose to its current level.

Interesting. I'm still interested in knowing more details about what it provides and how deep it goes. I can get a virtually endless array of possibilities using the exercises in his first book in conjunction with Syncopation and Stick Control... I can sort of imagine what this book is like, but there might be parts of it I can't possibly imagine.
