  • what era Export?

can anyone identify what year/era this Pearl Export is? i bought it from Guitar Center yesterday for 274.00 described as "good" condition 22, 10, 12, 16 green bronze??? im interested in what the actual name of the finish

judging by the style of lugs im guessing early to mid 90s. also if anybody happens to be the previous owners or know information about it, that would be great since i dont have the set yet

i have a Sensitone snare im gonna use with the set

The Badge era says 1994-95. Oddly the only factory color that could be is #83 Irish Green.

Is it possible this a rewrap? I'm not finding much on this color. Everything I find is a solid color not sparkly

If it is a rewrap (most likely) at least it looks as though they did a decent job!

It could be a re-wrap, but I'm starting to wonder if it quite possibly could be Export SX Quartz we did back in 1992 (same badge) in #75 Blue Quartz or #77 Black/grey Quartz that could have possibly faded?

the inner shells were 9-ply - 8 Mahogany + 1 interior Birch with no paper labels so no other markings to provide additional info.

Got the kit in yesterday and this is the reason I hate GC used gear program!!

Too many employees that don't know drums.

                First off the set is 12 13 16 22 instead of the advertised 10 12 16 22

Second, the previous owner broke one of the tension nuts for the 12 tom lug and he just shoved a different tension rod in the hole.

A drummer employee probably would have caught that but instead I gotta fix their mess or send it back which I don't really wanna do

I believe the kit is Black Quartz just faded. What do any of you think

Well I got them all fixed

I was able to get a set of tension nut from an old set I no longer used. The happened to be the same thread size. So I replaced all the nuts on the 12 tom and tension rods as well

I cleaned them up best I could and put some new heads on. Went with Remo Ambassadors all around. Coated for the batter, clear for resonant except the bass drum has a Powerstroke coated

All in all I'm happy with the set. I might look at recutting the bearing edges later but they still look pretty good

^ It does look like 1992-93 Export SX Quartz series. Looks nice!

GC is the worst for adequately describing quality of used gear.

Kit looks great. Looks the same (albeit a different wrap) to my old 1989 Export. Indestructible drums & will sound great with the coated Ambassadors

If you want to see if it's faded, just simply remove one of the lugs next time you go to change heads and see if the color is different underneath.

I owned an export from either Christmas of 93 or 94. Would these have also been Mahogany & Birch, or were you just speaking on the Export SX Quartz? Most of my kit was stolen. I still have the 13" and the snare. I love that snare and it is in great condition. It sounds great for a snare that was sold with a starter kit.
I recently disassembled it and polished it all up. Some of the chrome is coming off the rims and I had to replace the screws for the strainer cord, but other than that, it looks amazing for a drum that's 20+ years old. Is there anyway to tell the age of a drum from it's Serial # ? The number on the snare is 291237
