Thanks for your help everyone. Although I haven't answered every question I had in mind, I feel like a lot of them have. Much appreciated

I'm NOT an expert on this, but my understanding is that Pearl serial numbers don't "date" the drum the same way as Tama or Ludwig.

Wow, I hope the new head and hoop make it sound better than it did!

Any ideas how to translate the Ref No 875890? Presumably that's a year of manufacture and model no?

That's a free-floating snare (a Pearl proprietary design to limit hardware contact with the resonant chamber of the drum) and I think all of the free-floating models were considered higher-end. Looks like a Super Hoop on the bottom, I would definitely spring a little extra to get a Super Hoop replacement for the top.

You have a very nice snare, there. Don't be fooled by the basic "Steel Shell" badge-- the BLX/MLX (pre-Masters) badges, for instance, just say "ALL BIRCH SHELL" or "ALL MAPLE SHELL" --very generic looking.

Just popped the old head and hoop back on to give it a better look. Couldn't be bothered to go get the rest of it.....

Curiosity to be honest. Like I said, it needs a new top hoop and I don't want to pay out for Pearl Super Hoops if the drum is a basic model (which I think it is) and the Gibralter hoops will do as good a job

Sorry about the poor quality pics, fading light and a shaky phone hand!

Do you need to identify it for parts compatibility, or just curious?

No, will try to get a pic up shortly. The snare doesn't identify as an "Export" it just came with the kit.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly though

    Help identifying snare

After many years of not drumming I decided to make a comeback, playing purely for my own amusement and bought a used Export kit. I need some help identifying the snare and I hoping someone can help it's a Steel Shell 14 x 5 with the ref No 875890 on the plate. I've tried searching for the ID on line but with no luck. Can anyone help?

It sounded awful and upon inspection the batter side hoop was badly corroded and the head was past saving. I am hoping a new 10 lug Gibralter hoop and Evans batter head will make the word of difference
