  • 1984 Pearl Export AVH Stripe In storage for 30 years. Check it

Here some photos. I bought it in 1984 and i had to special order it from Japan i think. Took like 2 months at least to get it. I played it all over the country and retired it in 1988. Put it in cases and it has sat ever since. I'm going to sell it and wanted to offer it here first. Hitting ebay in a couple days Send me a message if your interested. its really rare these days to get any info about these kits. Lugs and spurs are the same as the high end kits at that time.

    Nice looking kit.

We do not allow selling on this forum. But you can put it in your sig link saying something like "1984 Pearl Export AVH Stripe kit for Sale PM me if interested".

Looks really clean. Pearl made the limited edition kits in Tiger Stripe wrap, Zebra Stripe wrap, Rising Sun wrap and of course the AVH Black/White Vertical stripe wrap, which you have. Shells are 9 ply "select wood" with acousti-coat sealer.

They're not Official Alex Van Halen though. Right? Alex played Ludwig his entire career as far as I know. I really interested for the real answer.

Did Pearl offer an AVH line or are they just striped and remind us all of VH. Because Frankie Banali from Quiet Riot played and endorsed Pearl and had black and white stripes!

But his stripes ran a different direction!

I don't see any 'plies' per say in the 3rd pic. Looks to be fiberboard of some type. I had heard that Exports were once made from fiberboard, and this looks to confirm. Unless my eyes deceive me. I'm sure they sound just fine, and this wrap is very cool.

The 1984 EX shells were 8-ply Select Wood w/Acoustic-coat inner sealer.
ELX (lacquer) were 8-ply Asian Mahogany / Birch inner and Outer ply.

Oh man, didn’t know if I’d ever see one of these in the wild. My dad bought a set in 1988 and we’ve had them ever since! We’ve always kept our eye out for these or the rising sun versions but have never come across them. Beautiful set!

Cool looking kit. Looks like you've lost a bolt though; reso side of the tom on the far right (drummer's left) in pic 1.

Tried to upload an image annotating this, but I've been having issues with the image uploader on this site.
