Special Ordering Expor Toms

so ive got an export kit from about 2002 and its in awesome condition. ive just put some new heads on it and it sounds great. i was considering getting a brand new kite but it gives a good sound and i cant be asked to pay for a more up to date kit until i can afford a masterworks!

anyway, currently my setup is:

20" kick
10" tom
12" tom
14" floor tom
14"snare

im thinking of adding another 20" kick, an 8" tom, and a 16" floor tom. Is it still possible to special order these toms from pearl? and would it be cheaper to just buy vision toms (the export is black wrap with chrome hardware) in the same finish etc?

if anyone has ordered any add on toms then please could they shed some light on this!

and also, how much would each of these drums cost separately in pounds preferably!

Yes, I do believe you can special order Export components though Massmusic.net.

get on ebay I have seen several black export kits and single drums on there you will save yourself a lot of money that way. I'm looking into ordering matching drums for my kit which is the 02/03 elx in the cobalt mist laquer finish and it aint cheap!

Yes as a couple others have stated you can still special order EX export drum components. It would probably be cheaper since the dealers should be using 2007 pricing (when they were discontinued).

Hi Fred,

Its still possible to order Export toms/bass drums etc. I've been speaking to ADC drums in Liverpool about having a couple made. The only downside is that its a 4-6 month wait, but thats fair enough seeing as they have to be made for you.

With regards to the Vision toms, I believe the vision toms are either birch or maple, whereas the Export toms are poplar. I know there are different models (EX, ELX etc) in both series so I may be wrong in generalising the series like this. I also don't know how much actual diference using different woods will make to the final sound.

Finally, used Exports pop up all the time on eBay. It may be cheaper to buy an actual complete drum kit with the sizes you want and then sell the other drums on as seperates, or break them down for spares.
