Ruby Fade Export Set without Floor Tom

My parents got me a 5 piece ruby fade export series Pearl drum set about 6 years ago and I have recently decided that I wanted to add in a 16 inch floor tom to the set. The 14" floor tom is racked to the ride stand but I noticed that Pearl Exports are no longer being made. I have found a few on eBay, none are Ruby Fade unfortunately but they all have different labels like "heat compression shell" etc...

SO basically i wanted to see what the equivalent would be for the, what i am assuming is the standard series, vision series or if there is something else available.

You can special order I think butit would take some months till you get it and I would better if you search on ebay and be patient.

agree or check craigslisting there is always someone with export stuff on there

Check the seller explodie on ebay,I got from him the 8 tom and he always has something interesting.

The only thing I have not bee sure about is 1)The color, there was one 16x16 export Floor Tom on Ebay which seemed promising from a 100% rep'd user but it was so it wouldn't match, and I'm just picky like that. 2) It has a sub label like (HCS) "Heat Compressed Shell" so i don't know if there would be any significance in buying a 16x16 as long as it was in Ruby Fade regardless of the type etc...

And of course my parents don't know any specifics of them except "we upgraded it". i was considering dropping 2g on Pearl Customs but my money could be going toward other things and I don't dislike my Exports, I just wanna upgrade in some way.

Look up Dale's Drum Shot on Google or eBay. I bought all my orphan EXR strata black toms from them, new old stock after the Exports had been discontinued. They always seem to have random Pearl toms for sale and might be able to find you the year and color you're looking for. I cant' see the image because I'm at work, but I assume it's the non-bridge-lug around-2002model year.

Ebay has a 10 a 14 and a 16 currently. Just search for ruby fade.

Only the 14x14 has the floor mount brackets unfortunately and there is no 16x16, the 16x13 just has the ISS system which I would rather avoid if possible.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how to go about putting legs on it. I could buy one in a different finish but i would think that would look kinda funny. There is a 14x14 with legs but i already have that with the I.S.S system on it. So would there be a point in having two? If its in Ruby Fade does that mean its made of the same wood and such? Since its from 02 compared to the more recent ones.

To my knowledge they should all be made from poplar so you should be fine there. The only issue I could imagine is the color might be a tad off because it is painted, and since it is possible for different batches of paint to have a slightly different contrast it might appear a little darker or lighter.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how to go about putting legs on it.

You can buy a basket that you would then mount leg brackets to the basket, thereby saving your shell. Check out http://www.gaugerpercussion.com/ and here are some pics from their site...

So the measurements for my Exports are:

10x8, 12x9, and 14x12

So originally I was thinking along the lines of 16x16 but I still can't find one in ruby fade. There is a 16x13 with the I.S.S system, which I wanted to avoid and get something with legs but i've decided i could live with it if it doesn't. The other option is a 14x14 with legs.

Would a 14x14 have enough of a difference to the point where it would be a viable option?
Or would something like the 16x13 be good as it seems like a reasonable next step?
Or would 16x16 be even more promising?

I leave it to you guys to help me decide.
