They are the Pearl BBC-1 Masking plate, it goes over the two holes in the bass drum where the BB-3 was removed, they are faily simple to put on and are very cheap.

Yeh, the BBC-1 plate is a good piece of kit.
I would recommend sealing it with special silicon filler (as ive done) as this creates an airtight seal --- Giving you a proper virgin bass sound.

I have a few pics of mine:

                  But occasional speed is okay
                  I suppose

                        awnser to the first question:
i think the newest tom mounting system is based on the rods where you tone the drum...
as you can see on the picture below, you can make the extra part bigger or smaller if needed. on each side there's a hole where the rods need to go trough. so you just have to confirm it on the hoop of the drum, the stand of the tom just goes in to the hole.

if the picture's not vieuwable for you, just search it on google or somethn
just add in the search: pearl new tom mounting system.

Before I got my masking plate, I just took the tom bracket off and flipped the gaskets...but the masking plate is the best...all of my kicks have them installed now.

I never thought about sealing the masking plate, though...might have to give that a try (but I'll do it on the Exports first )
