  • bring out the of my exports

hi im new to the forum and i was wondering if you could help me. i have two export kits a 2002 five piece, and a 70's 3 piece wood fiberglass kit. im a drummer in a classic rock n blues band.what i want is to bring out the best sound i can get from them. lets start with my bass drums. Ilove the sound of the Evans emad 2 bater head with its deep punch, and should i also replace my reso head? would wood hoops improve the sound? as for the toms would die cast hoops be an improvement? and should i replace both top and bottom hoops with them? do nylon washers on the tension rods improve the sound?at the present time im useing remo ambasador pin stripes and im thinking of trying out EVANS heads. i hate to dump all this cash out and find out im in the same boat i started with! what i like is a solid punch from the toms.My snare is a 66 supra no problem there! now i have an Export snare collecting dust would die cast hoops help here or should i not waste my money and use it as gig tip jar? thanks and if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it. drumstikvic

Hello there !! I would say don't waste time or money with the Export snare.
A '66 supra is all you'll need. I like the wood hoops idea for the kick and I
myself would slap on a new reso, Why not !! Nylon washers for me don't
affect sound too much. 2.3 hoops hold a tune great and are a LOT cheaper
than die cast. I must say at least for me my choice in heads and how I tune
them have the biggest affect in sound on my kit !! I have Remo clear
Emperors on the top and clear Ambassadors on the bottom of my toms. I
stress that this combo works for me, you need to experiment with heads
and tuning, Your ears will let you know what combo works !! Take care, E

I would say get new top and bottom tom heads before you replace your
tom hoops. New heads and tuning can work miracles !!! E

I love my sound with Evans EC2 Clears for batter and still haven't changed the stock Protone Resos. What I do is tighten up the Resos about as tight as they will go and it makes the EC2 Clears sing like mothers!!!! I also use Evans on my bass drums only I like the Hydraulics clear. I'm in the minority in my opinion there but I've been using the Evans Hydraulic Bass Batters since 1988 on my 1st Ex Kit (except when the closest music store didn't carry Evans and I needed one in a hurry. I played that Remo PS until it broke and then got a new Evans Hydraulic. Nice wet Boom!!! I hit my EXR snare once just to see if it would work as a back up; but I'm very happy with my JJ Sig Snare and it came with a Remo Ambassador batter head. I'm very happy with the ISS mounting on my rack toms and legs on my floor toms. I was also very happy with my 1st EX kit that had tom arms through the bass drums. They both keep the toms in place and I haven't noticed any great change in tom sound from the mounts.

I agree that Ginger Baker is king and it would take me the rest of my life to learn to play "Do What You Like!!!" Wellcome to the Forum and The Export Zone!!! You're at home here and will hear a lot of helpfull things and other stuff too!!! We like pictures even though it's hard to figure out how to post. Wellcome!!!

Thanks for the help and the warm welcome nova, sorry for yhe delay in responce. We had a niegbhorhood electrical blackout last night. And DrummerBryan i like the idea of useing my ex snare as a gig tip jar a little bit better. ill be posting pics of my kits soon (have to have my wife help me thier she"s a wiz). As far as my 70's 3 piece wood/ fiber glass kit (that happens to be different colors ). i picked up the bass drum for only $45 at a pawn shop that was haveing a 25% off moveing sale and the floor tom and 13" tom for $100 on ebay great rehearsal kit.If you get a chance check out our bands web site at www.alchemysky.com have a great day.
