I got my kit from drummers' paradise and the guys there stick all the heads on ya drums and stuff and tune them for ya

What I do , and I’m not saying this suits everybody. But I don’t bother with music shops ,, I’m in Bonnie Scotland btw
, I only use certain shops for my heads , sticks n whatever else I need.
I like to get to know my kit so to speak , so I take apart bits of her and give her a good polish , that way I know her and I know the bits I’m messing with , like memory locks wingnuts n all the other bits n bobs. Tuning pegs ,, when I put new heads on I press down centre of head using butt of wrist with a folded cloth then tighten each tension rod opposite to each other , say 2 o’clock then 7o’ clock then 11o’clock to 5 o’clock ,, hope this makes sense to you,,. As I’m tightening tension rods it’s only until they are just tight (not over tight) after that I get rid of cloth that I used butt of wrist to hold down on ,, then fine tune from there. Sitting a folded scarf on floor Tom will dampen sound ,, and a sock draped over other toms will also dampen sound. Like a cheap moon gel alternative. Works for me

The 10+ year vets know the unwritten rules, and no one reads the published rules

Wow, that was a roller coaster.

Thanks for the throwback to the world of early-2000's forums, Briankrupa67.
