Pearl elx snare drum

First i wanna do this
I jus got my pearl elx in blue mist (ooh so pretty )
buuuutttt...
Its now like um 3 weeks old
and when i first got my kit my snare drum sounded absolutly beutiful! I luved it!
NOW! it sounds like ****! tottal POO!
WHYYYYYY!????
ooh and like ya know how ya have em bumps on the beater head its all smooth already dus that mean anything??
and it makes this horrible ringing noise after you hit it ickers! I tightened the snares but not helping and i made em really tight and still didn't help

hey gurl!, asl?

first of all, if the batter head has dents on them, that means

1. Your hitting TOOOOO hard!
2. Its too loose

its almost imposible to dent a head when its tuned tight, also, you said the head became smooth? thats normal, its just some regular wear and tear from the drum heads, and that ringing noise, you can get rid of that by putting some Duct Tape on the outer edge of the snare with a little piece of napkin taped to the head.. hope it helps..

Tape some napkin on the snare, or just buy 0-rings from your LMS(local music store) . . . 0-rings take out 100% of the ring..

i short on cash trying to save up for a good pair of headfones (noise cancelling ones) so i can listen to music wen i play and it makes everything a heap quieter. dun wanna get ****ed up hearing.
then comes another bass and more toms
and better sounding cymbals

one thing!!! dont tighten the snare wires too tight as that could stretch them & could ruin them. now!! when you first put a new head on a drum what you might want to do is tune the head to how you like it, then put your hands on the middle of the head and push down on it you might hear cracking noises dont worry thats normal, this stretches the head plus seating it properly, after youve done that tune it back up where you had it before, this will give it consistancy( i think thats how you spell it). see if you put a new head on the drum with out stretching it , it will losen up by its self when you play on it and go out of tune. i hope this helps

0-rings are cheap.. costs like $2? or something like that.. thats US dollar, if your snare head has a lot of dents, better change it, also like carl said, dont overtighten the snare wires as it may choke the snare and sound awfull, also, be carefull with your ELX strainer, i just destroyed my strainer, but Gene took care of that (thanks Gene!) .. but i suggest using Duct Tape because you can Control the amount of ring that you want to remove . ., see the snare with the Tape on top, it is used to control the ring, you can put as many tapes as you want until you get the sound that you want.. if u get new Remo heads, you must "Seat" The heads first, Like what Carl said.. but if you get something like Evans, Aquarian . you dont have to Seat the heads anymore . .

There's also a product called MOONGEL (10 canadian $) that you can put on your snare head (also on toms) ... it works for me and it sounds great ...

If you want more control that you get with an o-ring (which are basically on/off) go to a music shop and look for a clamp-on muffler. I've got one and its good for adjusting to anything from the full ring to a cardboard box sound.

ive tried tape/napkin, zerO-rings, and moon gel. it depends on how much muffling you want. moon gel gives the least, and tape/napkin gives a little less than the zero-rings. but the tune-stretch-tune thing they said keeps your snare in tune for longer than if you didnt. thats probably why it doesnt sound good anymore...it stretched. later

but its ringing more then wen i 1st got it and i dun like that
I got my kit from drummers' paradise and the guys there stick all the heads on ya drums and stuff and tune them for ya
and they sounded beutiful wen i 1st got them home!

hey drummer girl,
i had exactly the same problem with my blue elx snare-maybe they're cursed!
No, its easy 2 fix. first, change the snare head to something like a powerstroke. tighten it up REALLY tight, and the bottom head tight, but not as tight. Retighten the snares, but not too much.

by the way, the heads on your new kit have to bed in. during the bed in period, they will come loose. this is why your snare became more ringy. after you re-tighten them a few times, they will stop coming loose cus they will have bedded in.

i dun have the doh to spend on new heads right away and my dad wuld go skitz if i told him i needed new ones now anyways

so yaay crappy snare sounds r cooool! hehehe
