  • Might be getting back into drumline...

...after five years of drumset and hand percussion only. What's changed? What have I missed? I hear we don't have to play flams anymore.
Those that do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing.

Songs are really just very interesting things to be doing with the air.

Yes, they have completely eliminated flams in America. They still do them in Japan, but they refer to them as "Frams".

      Do they still play frammadiddrrrs?

Actually, they stopped those as well. The new "in" rudiments are "patafrafras", "shirrey murphys", "paradiddrediddres", and, strangely enough, the "Godzirra". I've only heard the myths about this rudiment, as we only have yet to earn the respect to "rearn such a regendary, honorabre rudiment".

EDIT: Also, it's very important to know that we no longer carry our drums. As the Cadets displayed in 2005 that we will now sing our parts.

Ahh, thank you, but the question now is: should I take voice or percussion lessons?

Vocussion is the premier schooling. Percocal is okay, but they have a much smaller base here in the US.

How is he not banned yet? I don't really care, but I'm just curious.

How long do you think we've got 'til they add a third shot drum?

Also, within the decade, I think all drumlines will just be in the front ensemble. I mean... it happened to the front ensemble.

It certainly beats marching around! That might be painful!

Especially with those multi-quad-timp-toms. Those look heavy.

My back hurts just thinking about it.

PS. I thought I'd never quit playing marching percussion, 2 years later, haven't touched an FFX or set of quads. Weird how that happens.

Yeah. After I dropped out of the corps I made, I kind of fell out of the marching world and for the first time really focused on drumset. Now here I am.

Good thing I never practiced my book reports and cheese inverts.

This is a really long and drawn out conversation but I'll continue:

I tried out for my college's marching band, but I was never really into the rah-rah part of drumline. I really like precision of drum corps. but I have a whole other life outside of music so I couldn't commit a summer and a couple grand.

Anyway, prior to the tryout, I barely practiced any of the music, didn't memorize it, and I had this staph infection on my left thumb so I couldn't even hold the drumstick that well. The stars aligned and I didn't make it, leaving me free to pursue my other passions. It all worked out in the end.
