NOT a fan of Evans heads myself but I have never touched their marching products. I did buy a set of Puresound snare wires for my Rogers Dynasonic - same parent company - very good quality. I hope their snares sound more like snares this year instead of sounding like floor tiles.

I haven't liked Evans marching products since they first started around 1999. Awful awful sounding stuff.

That ultra dry sound BD has had since the Dynasty switch is all in the tuning...err...choking I mean. It has nothing to do with Remo drum heads.

I really liked Coats' bass sound last year. The rest of the line sounded good too, but the basses really stood out to me. Maybe BD will cut the fail next year?

I think this will turn out pretty good actually. I use on of the Evans Grey Hybrids on my Dynasty and I love it. The new Hybrids are awesome- miles better than the old stuff Evans put out.

I loved the sound of the Bluecoats line last year, and I know there are people who can tune Dynasty's to sound amazing (thank you Rennick) so I think BD might have a shot to gain that older-less tabletop sound they had before the switch to Dynasty.

I like evan's bass and LOVE thei HYBRID snare head. The top one. I hate the rest of their marching stuff. I don't have enough experience with their orchestral and drumset products to say anything.

After playing Remo for 20 years I just switched to Evans on my kit. I had a couple of reasons for doing so. 1. Quality control. I got tired of getting a box for a 14" coated ambasador with a 12" clear pinstripe inside. I also just got a set of fyberskins in and 2 of them were so unbalanced I couldn't tune them properly. 2. Sound. Evans heads have come a long way since I last tried them. I put an EMAD on my kick and I was amazed. For playing rock and pop you can't go wrong with that head. I'm going to have to find a good jazz head but I'm really excited about trying the J1 heads that Erskine helped create.
As for their marching stuff, I've never seen such a wide variety of products that sound good. I really love they hybrid heads. The stacatto disc is also really cool. I saw Jeff Queen using one and decided to try it. It really alows you to get that nice dry tone without making your snare sound like a table top. I must say, I'm officially hooked on Evans. The only problem I still have is Evans heads don't seem to last quite as long as Remo heads. I'm not sure about our marching heads cuz we haven't had them long enough but my kit heads haven't quite lasted so long. All in all, I think the switch is good. Evans is really a company that is about listening to what people want and giving it to them.

I think a lot of people are on bandwagons to really know and judge a product before they try using it.

Just like when Blue Devils switched to Dynasty in 2000.

"OMG. DYNASTY IS NOW THE SHIZZLE!"

                  Blue Devils with Pro-mark.

                  "I love the DC50s!"

                  Now Blue Devils and Evans.

                  "Hybrids all the waaaaay!"

Test each product to YOUR OWN satisfaction. Now because some Top 12 drum corps is using them.

Agreed. I like both, but as far as sound goes, I like the White's more.

cool. I'll suggest the white heads.
would you say they cut better?

Yeah, they cut more than the Grey's do, I think it's because the Grey's just have a clear film on top and the White's have the same film they use on the MX series. I've found rim shots cut waaay more than they did on the Grey's.

The whites cut way more than the greys.

The whites actually sound bright and crispy compared to deep and warm tone from the greys.

The downfall of the greys is that they actually heat up like crazy in the sun. Which will detune the head a lot faster.
