My Good But Cheap Cymbal Setup

I bought all of these cymbals new, and there are deals out there if they can be found. All of these are Sabian.

18" SR2 Thin (paid $100) a good crash-ride
17" AAX Concept Crash (paid $110)
16" AAX Concept Crash (paid $100)
14" SR2 Hats (medium top, heavy bottom; paid $160)

So I only paid $470 for these. The hats do not sound good in a small room, so I will probably get an SR2 14" Thin and use the 14" Medium for the bottom when I play in small rooms. I am totally satisfied with these Sabians. Peace and goodwill.

I kinda like the SR2 cymbals. I own three heavies: two 18" and one 19". I use them as crash rides.

I've got about 50 Sabians in my collection. All found for great deals. Only 1 or 2 that don't make the rotation in there. Mostly the AA stuff, but otherwise all great cymbals.

Sabian AAs are great cymbals. I have:

20" Sabian AA rock ride
14" Sabian regular hats
17" AA rock crash
18" AA rock crash

All of these cymbals have been with me for around 20 years and have witnessed many gigs.

The other day I was playing a buddy's kit. He had cheap Wuhan (?) hi hats. They sounded excellent.

AA just doesn't have the same depth of sound as the HH and HHX does. I have some AAX cymbals that sound nice and the Artisans sound nice as well. The AA's are too one dimensional by comparison. They aren't bad, but that don't really fit in with the other cymbals. I use one of my AA crashes as a bottom hihat cymbal teamed up with a thin HH on top. It's a very mellow and low pitched set of 16" hats.
