Sometimes I see the word “Washing “ used but only hear about it when they are talking about the ride cymbal. Actually, What is washing? Thanks

What really is washing the ride

Its the opposite of ping. When you hit a ride theres two main noises, wash, which kinda sounds like when you crash a cymbal, and ping, which is what it sounds like when you hit, say the middle of the ride cymbal with the tip of your stick.
