  • Some new pies got in over the week.

These are a thin 24” K Sound Lab prototype and thin 20” K Sound Lab prototype.

A match made in heaven with my 15” K Sound Lab prototype hihat set.

      Thanks!

I usually just make sure they are the same size and the heavier cymbal is usually on the bottom. Lol.

I do play the 12" ReMix series hi hats upside-down though. The "top" cymbal is a little too light and flexible.

Nice! They both appear to be Light rides! I wish they'd have made a 20" or 21" K Light ride. I'd for sure use it as my main crash over the hats...

      • They have some resemblance with the light series and some additional qualities.

Awesome score man! Are they both lathed/finished the same on the bottom side? I'm super curious about this 20" model... I've never seen anything like it except for the 22" and 24" K Light rides.

i would assume that the original owner, purchased at set of the original K/Z hats in the late 80's, these hats featured vented bottoms hats .
then, later, decided he wanted a more aggressive sound ,, notice your hats BOTH have the hexagon pattern? A standard set of dyno beats would've had a star pattern on the top hats if purchased in pairs

Interesting - I've played a couple sets of K/Z's and never seen vented Z's before. The first iteration of Dyno Beats (in the original Z range) had one "dimpled" star and one hex stamped cymbal, but when the Z's were replaced by the Z Custom range, both cymbals featured the hex stamping.

24 inch: just two K Light rides. One of them just has the most beautiful hammer marks but the other sounds better... 🤔 Not sure what to do about that, lol. Still waiting to find a good deal on an A series medium ride to add to the 24” collection.

23 inch: A series Sweet ride, K Custom Special Dry, K Sweet. The 23” A series Sweet ride is my “go to” right-side crash when I’m playing the 24” K Light.

22 inch: K Light, K Dark Medium, *(K Custom Special Dry crash)*, K Light EFX, and K Pre-aged Dry Light ride. This might be my favorite size of cymbal. Most of these 22’s excel as a crash or a ride and fall right in to that sweet spot. The K Dark Medium is the best overall ride sound though. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for that perfect versatile ride sound with a nice defined bell and articulate stick sound. The K Light EFX is one of my all time favorite cymbals made possible by the dudes over at Bakersfield modded cymbals.

                        20 inch: 🤔 I don’t own a single 20” ride... 20” and smaller are just crashes unless... ⬇️⬇️⬇️

18 inch: I have two of the ReMix series Breakbeat rides. These cymbals are great for smaller, un-mic’d gigs, but also excel in the studio if you’re looking to recreate that synthetic, almost Casio keyboard sound. I love this cymbal and it later turned into the A series Breakbeat and is currently still sold as the A series Uptown ride.

                        • Nice pics Josh - you have quite a selection of cymbals there. Almost none of them are like my cymbals. If we merged our collections, it would be a choir of voices HAHA.

By that standard, you'd add my collection and get another angle completely! Loads of 18" ride cymbals (They may not be fashionable but I love em), and teeny tiny 12/13" hi hats

When I was playing with this hip hop crew about ten years ago, my setup was 12" ReMix hats, 14" ReMix crash, 14" Trashformer, and an 18" Breakbeat ride. I loved that little rig and it sounded great!
