Chris at DOS applied a Meinl protectant to them after he buffed them, but that didn't extend the oxidation period. Actually it seemed to make it worse. When I got all the cymbals back from getting buffed, a couple had smudges of protectant all over them, so I cleaned them immediately. The ones I cleaned were still looking pretty good, and the ones with protectant on them looked more tarnished. However, a little diluted Sabian spray cymbal cleaner, a wash cloth, and water, makes them look [literally] better than new.
That's too bad. Good thing it's repairable at least. Do you have something in mind for protectant now?

I'm in the process of cleaning all my cymbals at the moment. Still a few to go... very tedious.

I love the cymbals with no logos. I think the logos are ugly and distracting. Also, mixing Sabian and Zildjian becomes almost undectable, as their B20 bronze is identical.

I totally expected to clean the cymbals a couple times per year... and they will look and sound great for many years to come. I’m not using a protectant. I’m fine with freshening them up once in a while.

Well yeh, they would be, since they are both base Zildjians, same basic processes from the the same exact company with same owners and simply split due to a family dispute/fallout. But due to the legal aspects, they could no longer use the "Zildjian" name/logo, even while Sabians are still produce in what was once part of the Zildjian cymbal company and still made in the same shop, same materials, etc. Sabian actually got a better end of the deal, because they got to keep the most qualified craftsmen out of that deal. So Sabian is basically Zildjian II's. The Sabian name was nothing more than the first two letters of Bob's 3 children put together. So wipe off the logos and they are basically the same cymbals, just crafted a little different for the different lines. It's still all owned by the Zildjian family.

Have you ever had to tart up an LP Ice Bell?
It has a very curious finish on it... I guess it's actually like the Pearl brass coloured snare shells, in that there are really no options to cut the finish back in a domestic setting. That's the impression I'm getting.

I never had one of those. Maybe they are lacquered?

Yes, I am supposing so. Frustrating because mine looks really average now but a) a new one costs money; and b) the one I own is 100% the sound I want. Though I'd imagine the product is quite consistent.

The value of the Zildjian name is far and above the better end of the deal.

                              • New old Z's arrived today.

Originally wanted a pair of Dyno Beats waaaaaaaaay back in the day, but decided I didn't like the pair I got, so I was going to exchange them for a pair of these but actually ended up with a pair of New Beats instead. Found a pair of old (but new) Dyno's collecting dust in the back of the cymbal room in a shop I worked in some years later and they were perfect, so I snapped them up, but I never got a pair of these - until now. I've totally forgotten what they sound like, so it's a blind (well, deaf?) buy, so who knows. As Varg Vikerness loves to say - let's find out!
