  • Since this is a Zildjian thread I'd like to get your opinions on what you would like to see from Zildjian.

I'm talking about ideas for cymbals as well as ideas for services provided by the company.

    I'll start.

In another thread I made mention of the fact that I don't think the cymbals (in the cast, or "professional" series) should be labeled as top or bottom, or crash, splash, ride or whatever. I think people that know enough to start spending serious money on cymbals shouldn't be limited by labels. I think maybe a small hand written "hint" written under the bell would be cool. A "T" for the intended top and a "B" for the recommended bottom, the weight. Idk. I just wish my hi hat didn't have bottom written on the top and my main crash didn't say ride on it. I will admit that this May come off sounding "snobbish" and I do realize it'd be a lot of extra work. I just think it'd be cool.

I also think it'd be cool to offer the EFX laser cut option to any cymbal. An EFX china would be sweet! A 20" K Dark Thin EFX would be equally as rad as an EFX splash or two.

I'd like to create a set of hats that uses the same hammering/concept as the Breakbeat ride for the bottom (w/EFX cut outs) and a K Light styled top hat (with the 22" & 24" K Light style hammering). These would be sick in a 15" size! I'd like a 19" and 21" K Light crash ride as well. I think Zildjian was way ahead of their time with the ReMix line and the 15" Sweet hats, so those should come back.

These are just some ideas I've had. It'd be cool if others wanted to share their ideas or concepts as well!

It would be cool to have a generic old school line of A. Zildjians that are unstamped and function along the lines of Paiste Giant Beat Multis. Zildjian could put a large selection of them at select drum shops and drummers could go through the various cymbals and put their own set together. It would be cool, but very limited.

Beyond that, designs today are too specialized in design and function to not be given a model name. Zildjian spends a lot of time and money developing new models and they want to market the new cymbal based on it's unique design and characteristics. With hundreds of options today it would be a marketing nightmare for Zildjian if they didn't give cymbals specific names and models.

I was just thinking that. Although it is a pretty limited line of cymbals, I like the fact that they aren't labeled.

Yes, in terms of function, but more expansive in options. I think the Kerope goes to what I was talking about in the other part of my post. Zidjian spent time and money developing the Keropes. They want to advertise it as a premium cymbal, give it it's on specific name and logo.

              • I'd like to see more 20-24" options for crashes, or very crashable rides. Thin to Medium-Thin weights with more overtones. Not dry like most of the K Con. line cymbals. Maybe "brighter" is the word.

They exist. My High School had a set in the early 80's. They were a standard size in the catalog for years, but never big sellers. With the popularity of big hats these days, I'm surprised Zildjian didn't bring them back.

                              • I was mucking around with my set up earlier today and thought this would make a cool photo. It's the evolution of the Z Custom!
