  • That A set is ace. I've got 14" New Beats, 17" Medium and 17" Medium-Thin and an 18" Medium, and I just need a 16" in either Medium or Med-Thin to round it off.

    • Ahw crap, i just read Zildjian discontinued the 18" Oriental Crash of Doom. The 20" sounds awesome too, but i was planning to use the 18" as a main crash and i'm afraid the 20" will be too overpowering for being a main crash.

By the way, does anyone know if Gavin is using the 18 or 20" version in this vid?

      • ^ it looks like 20''

i've been wanted to try the 20'' for the longest time... just seems like a perfect cymbal to me

        • I'm pretty sure it's an 18". The lens on the overhead camera makes it appear larger, but if you look at the ground level shots you can see it's definitely not that big.

          • It's hard to see, but i guess it's indeed an 18". I did a quick Google and came up with this (he answered it himself):

Did you get an 20'' Oriental Crash of Doom and cut it down to 18''...
Because on Zildjian site there's no 18'' Crash of Doom

Yes I think they use to make the 18" available. Maybe not any more.

Well, still not a conclusive answer if it's an 18 or 20". Depending on the view, it looks like a 20". Compared to the ride, it seems the same size and it looks bigger then the 18" K crash. On the other side, the left china is a 16" Oriental China Trash and compared to that it doesn't look like a 20". Argh!

            • w00t! I just found an 18" Oriental Crash of Doom on a webshop for €192!!! I have just e-mailed them with the question if they still have it (keep your fingers crossed!!) and if it's a new or used cymbal. For that price (new it costs around €320) i think it's used, but it looks new:

              So, keep your fingers crossed!

I currently have an 80's Z Light Power Ride, which has lots of ping, a little more wash/build up that I'd like, and a not very defined/clear bell. But I do like it's pitch and tone. I would love to get a K Custom tho!

                  • I just ordered the 18" Oriental Crash of Doom! It was a show model and that's why it's was so cheap. I was afraid it was a used cymbal, because it was 192 euros and the 18" has been discontinued (and discontinued models tend to go up in prices).

Anyway, tomorrow i will get my salary (i get paid by the week) and still have some savings left. Tomorrow i will order the Avedis pack i posted about in the previous page. And then i have the basic set i want!

I've wanted one since 1998 when I first demo'd one. I will own one, one day!!!

My Z ride is nice - tight ping, and not too washy, but it doesn't have a loud or cutting enough bell, and I'd prefer a bit less on the overtone front. K IS THE ANSWER!
