I know you just dropped the cash on the 2nd kick, but any ideas on what's next on the purchase list? Upgrade from the Export snare perhaps?

Definitely a snare upgrade needs to happen! Also saving up for one has to happen first Of course I wanted to go with the Crystal Beat free floater but that's close to 600.00 and I just cant swing that right now (this kit wasn't cheap as it is). Any recommendations?

Build your own. Buy a free float frame off the 'bay and then purchase an RCI clear shell to put in it. Only need a top bearing edge which are not hard to cut...

RCI is probably producing the shells for Pearl anyway...

Hahaha, I feel you there, my dude. I recently picked up a Reference kit (B-stock at a good price) and I already had a matching 2nd kick drum for it (that I also got for a steal) and the last few months I've been lusting over Reference Brass snares but the price they're currently going for is killing me. LOL.

If I had to suggest some, I see the Session snares are at a pretty fair price (< $300 USD) and could be an upgrade over the Export snare, or perhaps a Sensitone model in aluminum or steel in you're in the market for a metal shell? The steel model is around $260 USD and the aluminum version at ~$310 USD depending on the dealer.

Then of course can always get the matching Crystal Beat FF later on.

I don’t see how playing metal will have any affect over any other style. Now dropping it is a whole different story.

PDP has the Chad Smith acrylic snare that sells for around $259.00. Or you can get a DW design acrylic snare for under $300.00.

If you can find one of the Tama SLP Mirage snares, they're awesome. 14x6.5 with Tama's Linear Drive Strainer, diecast hoops, and high-tension lugs. Sounds amazing at any tuning range and is loud as ****! They only went for $350 new so it shouldn't be too expensive to find a used one. I personally recommend against acrylic snares since it's the drum that will take the biggest beating on the kit, but I totally understand wanting to match the kit.
