  • No badge on Crystal Beat snare shell?

I got my crystal beat snare shell today for my free floater! It appears to be in good condition, but I was a little surprised that it does not have any badge on it. Is this normal?

One more thing....shouldn't the shell for 5" deep free floaters be the same height as the shell I am removing? I guess I need all new tension rods on top!

        WSGNST,

Thanks so much for purchasing the shell. Our first shipment of Crystal Beat shells was sent to a slightly larger depth and without badges; looks like the one you got was one of those that simply slipped through the cracks. So sorry this happened at your expense.

We would certain like to recall the shell and install the badge correctly. Pearl's Drum Guru-in-Residence Al Percival will take care of you in that regard. In terms of the depth, we can do one of two things: if you want something a little more unique, we can leave the shell a little deeper and simply send longer tension rods so you can enjoy a rare piece that might not be repeated. Or, while we are installing the badge, we can modify the depth to match the standard shell depth for a drum of this size.

The choice is yours. Thanks so much for getting to us on this quickly, we will do our best to make it right in a timely manner so you don't have to be without the drum too long.

        Thanks again!

Let's face it, it's the badge you're paying for. A seamless clear acrylic shell can be had by many different routes. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same route Pearl has taken.

The original maple shell is 3 5/8" deep and the Acrylic is 4" so I'm planning to use longer tension rods to rectify the situation. It's not a huge difference.

That's pretty good customer service (and fast replies.) Nice!

This is one of the reasons why I'm a Pearl guy...but fortunately, I've never had cause for a customer service fix...another reason i'm a Pearl guy.

...and yes, yes, yes, go with the longer tension rods!

I've experienced the same first class service from Pearl the rare time there was a problem with a new purchase. They are the gold standard for other drum companies to emulate when it comes to customer service.
