cradle of filth made a horror movie, i haven't seen it yet, but ima see it! it's called the cradle of fear (how inspirational)
It's a budget film, and the director is the same guy who done 'Her Ghost in the Fog'. I was talking to Dani and Paul back stage when we played with them at a festival. Dani said money was pretty tight and he always wanted to make a film, but wasn't looking to make any kind of return on it. It was more or less just for kicks. It's actually about 5 mini side movies on 1. The best one is about a guy who is addicted to Snuff movies, and his job is to ban URL's to snuff movies for the service provider. However he stumbles upon a site where you can click in commands and watch someone being tortured via a webcamera, all live obviously. They'd be a guy stood there, and he'd click for the option 'hit in face with hammer' and it would cost £500, and then someone would enter the room and hit them in the face with a hammer, much to his pleasure he eventually goes nuts, runs out of money, loses his home and he goes in search for the place where they do the snuff. He gets a tip from some mysterious person. Anyway he ends up on the same room, with a camera in front of him, and some guys coming at him to torture him for someone elses pleasure who's watching via the internet.
Motorboating.
The placement of one's face, specifically the mouth, into the area between a well-endowed woman's breasts, followed by a rapid shaking of the face in a side-to-side motion accompanied by yelling. The resulting sound that is created sounds similar to an outboard boat motor.
first off, Requiem and Waking Life are a must, Requiem ForADream is sad, really sad, so be ready for that. the guy who directed it is amazing, he also directed Pi, a movie about a schitzophrenic mathamatician thats racing his sanity to the meaning of life. The cast isn't as strong, but there stand out no names that deserve better...there usually sold together in the Darren Aronofsky collection for 10 bones at hastings and blockbuster, just buy em, worth it. i also suggest: City of God, Love Liza, The Manchurian Candidate, and WristCutters. City of God is about photography and how it gets this kid out the worst ghetto in Rio. Love Liza stars phillip seymore hoffman as a man who turns to huffing gas from toy planes to cope with his wife's suicide. WrstCutters takes you to purgatory, a funny purgatory, where the beer is warm and flat, nobody can smile, and you just can't end it all again. put those in you netflix n smoke em..
Control (the movie about Joy Division) was great, I thought.
I had expected it to be a visually great movie, but it turned out the story was pretty interesting and well executed as well.
While I agree the plot was actually executed well, I thought Sam Riley was horrible in the film. I much prefer 24 Hour Party People, which is a must see, in my opinion, if you are interested in Joy Division/Factory Records/music business debacle.
Also should be viewed:
Metropolis
The Football Factory
Ran
The Counterfeiters
The Signal
I mean, at one point I'm pretty sure I sold a woman. I didn't speak the language, but I shook a guy's hand, he gave me the keys to a Mercedes, and I left her there.
A really good Japanese film a recently saw is Spirited Away. It's an anime film, don't be put off. I don't like this kind of thing but I assure you it's such a lovely film. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirited_Away
Spirited Away is brilliant. I was fascinated from start to finish and found a whole load of the characters / creatures really humorous (just due to their appearance and mannerisms).
Fight Club, incredible movie. I was also gonna say Donnie Darko and Requiem For A Dream, but they're already on your list. The Matrix trilogy is pretty interesting as well.
The Mind****: Movies that actually mess with your mind, meaning usually complicated films that urge you to think and to think them over - plot-related - even long after the viewing experience, and maybe confuse you in terms of "WTF just happened?". David Lynch's films are the perfect examples of a mind****. After such experiences it's likely to gather around a fire and try to explain how a wise guy like yourself got deceived by this ****ed up auteur. Maybe even sacrifice a goat.
The MindBurn: Movies that actually kill your brain cells in a bad way, meaning films that may be psychedelic, controversial, bizarre or surreal, with plenty of unreasonable actions and strange events happening, that you don't really care about analyzing or deciphering, cause that's not the point. It's just about the trip. Oh yeah, the word "high" is definitely a part of this. Examples are: Alejandro Jodorowsky's films, most of Takashi Miike's films, some Terry Gilliam etc. Just sit back and enjoy the ride - and burn, baby, burn.
