View Full Version : Second snare?

I play a lot of punk and have a 14 x 3.5 steel free floater which is great for that kind of stuff.

I'm thinking of getting a 14 x 6.5 wood snare for more general rock playing - looking at the Pearl Masters. They're really expensive here in Ireland (all over $400).

The BRX is the cheapest, would Birch be too close tonally to the steel piccolo? Would an MRX or MHX be better?

Thanks in advance.

Hey, homeboy!! Never played a steel piccolo but yeah, the birch masters does give off metal-like high end frequencies, but you still get a nice woody tone. Hope this helps.

Thanks man.

I wouldn't mind a bit of high end to cut thru the guitars and stuff, once I get a bit of woody resonance as well. Plus I've been offered a BRX at 10% off, making it 340....

But the house is gettin remodelled and my kit's in the closet for 2 more months (grrr...), so I'll have to see how I feel about the whole thing come April.

Thanks again for the advice, I'll let you know if anything else develops!

Full Collapse - I have a steel piccolo for punk, lookin for something for more general suff. Thanks for the advice, tho!

Like I said, it'll be a while before I do anything about this anyway. I'm gonna try and hear as many snares as I can before I decide.
