Hey guys, I am thinking of venting my toms and bass drum, like a vented snare. I think it would look and sound really cool. I think it might give them a blast of clarity and really focus the tone. What do you guys think, Slipknot1, you like the vented snares. Any idea on what this might sound like. It is an older Export Select set (97-98). It is good but it is pretty dinged up and I am going to do it over the most damaged spots. Anways... let me know as fast as you can!

I've never heard of ported Toms & Basses.

Exactly, I haven't either. I want to know what people might think it would sound like.

I would not vent a tom. Unless you have an old one lying around for experimenting with. Most toms are going to be too thin anyhow. I have never done it, nor heard of anyone who did, so i really cant tell you what to expect.

I was only thinking 1 vent on the toms and then like 4 on the bass drum. That way I would not need to put holes in my reso head on the bass drum. I mean, the sound is not traveling out the front of the head so some of the projection might be lost but I think it might resonate a little more.

How big a vent are you talking about?. Toms already have like a 1/4" vent, are you talking like 2" or something?. And as for the bass drum, the holes in the Reso head would most likley serve the same purpose.

I think it should be a crime to vent drums other than snares. And even there it should be at least a misdermener.

I am talking about a 2" vent. I might do it in place of the 1/4" vent. I vented a snare and liked it quite a bit so I am not sure about the toms.

Try it, i would just be a little uneasy about cutting a large hole in my drums without knowing what it will sound like.
