OK, hi all! The question is quite simple: :) How do you get a dry snare sound? (i mean the driest possible) Please answer by mentioning the ideal shell material for this type of sound, size of the snare (deep, piccolo, other..), tightness of snare strainer, heads, tuning and hoops (cast or 2.3 mm). Thank you!

Go for the wood. No deeper than 5.5X14. Try heads that are supposed to sound dry like for example Evans ST Dry. Muffling ring would help. Also try Equalizer snares by Puresound, you'll have to experiment with tightness.

shallow 14x4 or 14x5 birch or titanium shell, with an Evans ST Dry or Power Center w/ dot.

if this is for recording, i say the birch, but if you're doing live, remember you need a little ring to cut thru.

Thanks for the replies ! Does anyone have any mp3's of their snare sounds? If anyone does, please post them and describe the snare, tuning and heads. :)
