View Full Version : MCC Available in Canada Yet?

I know when MCC first released, it wasn't available to Canadians like me. Has anything changed? I'm starting to dream about my next kit.

I'm a Pearl player for most of my life. First good drum set was Export in 1987, then bought my Masters Custom Extra (MRX) in 1998. Also fully-restored a vintage set of early 80's EarthTone Maple (MX) drums. I still own the latter two kits. I teach drum lessons too, and always recommend Pearl to my students. Not that there aren't other good drums out there, but its Pearl's customer service, parts availability/ interchangeability, and overall quality that keep me loyal to the brand. @Al Percival - I met you in person at NAMM in 2015. You are a great ambassador for Pearl!

You can't imagine how thrilled I was to see the introduction of the Masters Maple Gum series and now that it is also available with more size and finish options via the MCC program. This would be an "end game" kit for me, so I like the idea of getting exactly what I want in terms of sizes and finish. Nothing crazy, just a basic 22"x14", 13"x9", and 16"x16" in a wrapped finish so that I could gig with it and not worry as much about possibly scratching the finish. Pearl doesn't appear to offer this configuration in most of their "standard" lines. I like 24" bass drums, but like the playability and portability of 22" better.

Was it available to other Canadians not like you?

Unfortunately, no. Pearl is distributed in Canada by Erikson Music, and I think either someone at Pearl or Erikson decided that the Canadian market either isn't big enough or just not appropriate for the MCC program. Obviously I'm speculating, but I'm pretty sure this is the case. I've seen other threads on the PDF where its been suggested that Canadians wanting an MCC kit could work with US dealers who ship to Canada, but I have a hunch that could get enormously expensive due to shipping costs and exchange rates. Still, I'd be interested in hearing from any Canadians who might have bought Pearl gear through US dealers (especially MCC kits) and if they would do it again.
