Of course, in the beginning I was drawn to Pearl because of the Reference Pure drums, and my first Reference Pure kit was in basic piano black lacquer. When they came out with the Music City Customs, these drums just lit me up. Being a vintage guy, I really wanted a nice wrap instead, so its hard for me to contain my glee about these. I like them so much I added two more drums and now have FOUR toms! I hardly ever play out on a stage that's big enough for more than four drums total, but I may demand a bigger stage so I can use all of these drums. My kit now consists of:

16x22
8x12
9x13
16x16
16x18

and a matching 6.5x14 snare. This kit ROCKS! Enjoy the pics!

I'm referring to the finish as "Oyster du Siegfried & Roy" - it just sounds cooler ;)

Gorgeous drums Bo and nice little shell bank you're starting. I think you've set them up backwards though. 😃

Damn, luv your kit. Those tube lugs just make it all come together. They match perfect with that wrap.

Thanks all - I was working on my new video set-up and managed to get this freeform solo up on Youtube today. Here's what they sound like if you have the time to give it a listen. Thanks for the kind words!

That's some great drumming on great sounding drums! How did you get the FT to hold so much water? :) I like this kit more every time I see them!

Nice kit man. Haha. I've seen so many of your kits on drummerworld forum. I'm just a lurker there. Those are some big sizes. You don't find a 12 & 13 too close together?

I grew up on 12 and 13 rack toms, so it's normal to me. I find 10 too small. I was tempted to ask for a 15x14 floor tom (I have the same allergy concerning 14" floor toms) so there'd only be a one-inch difference in floor toms. This is basically a Ludwig ProBeat kit from the 1975 Ludwig catalog (but that one came with a 14x24 bass drum). But I do love that 18" floor tom, it's literally like having an extra bass drum ;)

I do like how the camera is catching the heads moving, and on one video, it caught my ride vibrating as I played it. Very wavy. Thanks for giving it a listen everyone! I am becoming 100% Pearl now that I can get my vintage look with the best shells in the business!

BTW - that audio was just one AKG C214 as the single overhead mic, and a lone Shure SM58 in front of the bass drum. Today I set up an AKG P120 between the two rack toms, and another AKG P120 between the floor toms, the snare drum got the AKG C214, and a long AKG SE33 pencil condenser mic over the kit. I'm debating installing a ported head and the Pearl muffler in the bass drum so I can get my Shure SM58 slightly inside the drum for more punch.

Do it!

OK - the kit is now ready and miked up. I got another head and ported it so I could get my mic in there. But it's a full-on condenser mic set-up: two AKG P120's over the toms, the AKG C214 on the snare, an AKG SE300B pencil condenser on the hats, and two Audio Technica Pro37's for my overhead stereo pair. I have a lone Shure SM58 halfway into the bass drum. My initial recordings sound pretty good. Stay tuned for more!

Great looking and sounding kit and setup perfect (I'm a lefty too). Still trying to decide on a finish for my small MCC kit order. Toughest part of the entire process..hah!

Although, I must admit, having four toms has stretched me out a bit, and the other day I set it back up as a four-piece, and was able to lower everything by about two inches. It's much more comfortable that way.

I do have a plan in store for the 16x18 and the 8x12....stay tuned. But it is nice to have the option of different kits depending on what I need.

Well, I'm actually re-working a bass drum pedal I have on a plate to make it do an upward strike, and I'll use the 18 on occasion as cocktail-kit-like bass drum. I have a PowerStroke 4 head ordered for it to put on the resonant side, and I'll tune the top head to continue on as a floor tom. If I add the 12 tom, and a snare drum, I have essentially a 4-piece jazz kit with only three drums. This should be happening next week.

Bo,

You should be able to simply reverse a Pearl P-900 or other chain drive pedal. I hope to upgrade to one of the new Redline pedals when they come out. It looks like they can be reversed as well.

That's what I use on my MW cocktail kit with the verticle kick drum (see my signature).

493434493433So as I tried to get comfortable with a two-up, two-down configuration, ultimately I went back to a one-up one-down set-up. The 18" floor tom looks cool where it is although I don't play it often, so it stays. But the 12" tom came off and I was able to lower things to where I'm comfortable. Current plans are to modify one of my pedals to up-swing and the 18" floor becomes a bass drum/floor tom, the 12 becomes a rack, and when you add a snare, it becomes a three piece 4-piece jazz kit. That's next. But here's some shots I did of the kit with an actual camera and a light! I do love these drums!

Thanks so much! I'm a budding semi-pro photographer as well (some of my work is on Instagram at Bo_Eder) and have done some work in that realm. But this finish was the first one to catch my eye and I just went with my gut and so far I am not regretting it. I'm usually a black oyster guy, but I already have a kit in that finish as well, so this one is like the reciprocal of that one. I've always liked white marine pearl, but I just wanted something to make it stand out a bit more without it being gaudy, and this was the one!

With the kick drum and 18" floor tom, does the wrap have 1 or 2 seams?
