Picked these up a couple weeks ago, Pearl did a great job on this line! With White Suede Emperors on the batters, CS Clear as resonants, Coated PS3 as bass batter, these have a great vintage sound. Really punchy with a round warm tone and the 24" is the only way to go!

That's a really nice clean looking kit. I'm glad those heads sound good and have that vintage sound. I just got a set of black suede emperors hoping for that type of sound.

Nice looking kit. What's with the port hole on the front head?

The stock resonant head comes ported. Still has a nice tone, but I prefer unported.

Yeah, but that kit looks so slammin in black

CUZ, how do these compare to your Classic Maples? Do they have a big, round sound?

Well, then there's reason enough to get another one! Bartender! Set this man up with another wood-fiberglass kit in BLACK!

Yes! Round is how I would describe them, they also project nicely and the tone is great. I would call these modern vintage. I can't wait for the 12 inch tom and the 14x14 floor tom to arrive

You mention that 24" is "the only way to go." I kinda agree with this because my 24" sounds better than my 22" or 20". Sadly, it rarely leaves the practice space because it takes up so much room on stage and is a PITA to move. Part of the problem is that the drummer is a little lazy. :)

Excellent! Thanks CUZ.

Here is a good representation of how these drums perform, as always head choice and tuning can change how they sound as well. I have mine outfitted with clear vintage emps on the tom batter with clear ambassadors on the reso, ps3 front and back on the kick with no muffling

^ I've listed to that many times wondering if it was a "true" representation of the kit -- thanks for confirming for me!

After having these for a bit of time and tweaking them I have to say they were a great buy. Really versatile drums that are quite a bargain considering the street prices, well done Pearl! I'm not sure they are louder than a normal wood shell drum, though, definitely more articulate. My reason for my initial purchase of these was to get a vintage sound without buying a vintage kit, this they have in abundance.

I love mine, I ordered the 12 inch tom and the 14 inch floor tom as well to make mine a 2 up 2 down. Where did you get yours????

Nice, are they connected to the Drum Shop of Maine? I got mine at Drum Ctr Of Portsmouth

After a three year stint with a Gretsch Catalina Jazz kit, I've decided to give Pearl another chance and placed an order for a 12-14-20 Piano Black WF series shell pack. Has anyone else tried these smaller WF kits with a coated/clear Ambassador head combo for jazz and low volume gigs? I'll be staying with my Pearl snares..6.5" BB and 5" Aluminum Sensitones with tube lugs. Not sure which will be the best for the WFs but it will be fun finding out. Hopefully I'll be happy to be back playing 100% Pearl soon!

The shells came in last week and the heads and hardware today. Wish I could have gone with Pearl on the flat hardware but they weren't yet in stock. The Gibraltar hardware I've been using has held up really well and it's competitively priced. Batter heads are coated Powerstroke 3 and resos are coated Diplomat. Coated Pearl Pro-tone reso with EQ ring..no ports or internal padding needed. 6.5" Sensitone BB snare with Diplomat snare side. Cymbals are K Rarities - 22", 19", 14".

Thanks! Have gigs Saturday and Monday to break them in and tweak stuff. Already the toms have that fat, rich, throaty tone that Russ Kunkel got with his old Pearls I've been wanting. Can't wait to mic them up, especially the kick. This 12-14-20 setup will cover just about anything and feels comfortable considering my first kit was a '65 Ludwig Club Date in those sizes.
