Very bright! Well compared to my 14" k custom dark hats they are. I love them though, the size is perfect, great control and they are pretty loud to.

Also I'm considering buying myself another snare. A wooden one this time. I'm torn between a 14x5 and 14x6.5 reference pure snares. I really like both sizes, I do not favor any just undecided on which I should buy. I currently play a 14x6.5 steel reference as my main.

So I'm open to suggestions.
Anyone out there lucky enough to own both?

They honestly both sound similar but unless you like a big sounding lower tuned snare I'd go with the 5". Cheaper too.

Beautiful Reference Pure kit! Nice finish, and choice of cymbals! If you ever re-configure, I'd suggest to arrange the 8/10/12 in order, all to the right of your main hi-hat. You might appreciate the accessibility of your main toms, in a row. If you like having a tom to your left, you could add a 13", or a timbale or something else. Just a suggestion...

You read my mind. Over the years have enjoyed playing both configurations. I'm thinking I might change it up again soon. Also I have thought about a 13" for the left hand side but simply don't have the money to buy anymore drums

Ok so iv changed my kits configuration to the more traditional style with the three toms across the front (because I know that's what you all like) I'll play it for a bit, if I like it I'll keep it if not I'll just change it back. Also played around with the cymbal set up to.

Photos up over the weekend :)

Not so much far away, just higher. My snare is very low and my toms are as low as they can go without hitting the bass or being on a ridiculous angle. To get my snare closer to my toms I will have to raise it, in doing so I will then have to raise my seat which I don't want to do because I don't like sitting up high. But anyway I find it very comfortable to play so I'm not going to change it

Very nice set-up! How do you like the coated Emps over the clear "Reference" Emps? On my new kit, my rack toms are 8x7, 10x7 and 12x8. This allows me to lower my rack almost an inch... and have the toms a little lower. I'll never forget the 102 natural maple finish ;)

Well I only put them on today and played for about 30mins so I can't say to much yet. Floor toms are definitely warmer and to me sound better then the clear emperors. I'm kinda just experimenting at the moment.

Can't wait to see pics. I don't think I'll ever stray from 8/10/12 in front. If I do, it would probably be 8/10 only. They are my favorite rack toms. I remember the natural finish... it's timeless!

There is just something about natural maple... and I think that I am going to have to sacrifice my 6X14 DW Collectors Edge snare to move into a 6X14 RefPure snare. Maybe natural maple? That is a beautiful set! You have to be pleased!

New heads and set up,

Really digging the new Remo white suede heads, been playing them for about two months now. Love the tone and also love the fact they keep really clean and still look brand new!

Removed the remote hi-hat from the kit. Added a splash and changed the cymbal set up. All the cymbals are really accessible now.

Loving this kit!

Love it. Nice set up. I love a natural finish.

Only thing I usually have different is I like a crash over the floors for the end of fills. A statement of personal preference and a suggestion rolled into one I guess.

I tend to swap the 20" Paiste 2002 crash and the 18" Zildjian oriental china around from time to time. I find I enjoy using both cymbals more with this current set up.

Absolutely love the finish, looks even better in the flesh, just need a better camera to try and do it justice

Hi,

Yes, I've thought that a couple of times myself. However, you did a nice job of getting the larger cymbal to fit under the middle cymbal.

I only wish Pearl had made the extension piece a 3/8" diameter so other types of mounts could be used with it.

P.S. On my Reference Pure cocktail kit, I took several of the TL-2000s and cut and filed off the cymbal thread part so that they can be used just with the percussion mount portion. I didn't like having the threaded portion getting in the way when I mounted other percussion.

MM :)

Great looking kit. I'm sure it sounds great but I'm especially curious about the lower toms bc I'm thinking of having my 14 & 16s recut w the fully round edges. But I don't know how that would change/relate to the rest of my kit (45* traditional cut fr 2003)
