How do you guys go about building up chops? I've tried playing on a pillow but I think it totally kills technique. Would getting heavier sticks help mabey? Share your thoughts.

Heavier sticks might help your chops. However, don't OVERpractice with the heavier sticks, or you are gonna kill your arms.

I'm not the best snare player in the world because I'm still pretty young but, I noticed that learning hybrid rudiments is a great way of testing you if you really have mastered some of your rudiments or not. Also diddle control is important and the only way to improve your diddles is to play diddles! Getting better at long rolls, paradiddles, paradiddle-diddles, drags, and cheeses help as well. Also Jeff Queen's DVD: Playing with Sticks is a great resource for improving control and chops.
