Hey all!

This year, I'm playing snare in marching band, and I've noticed that the harness absolutely KILLS my back. Especially my lower back. My school is fairly small, and we only do 3 parades and field shows, but they're all within a week of each other. Does anyone have any tips/tricks/suggestions to make a harness more comfortable on the back?

Make sure it's adjusted well. As in, with and without the drum on you can move all your limbs completely freely. Have the belly plate ON your belly, not down your hips. The lower that plate is, the lower the force is that is causing your back pain. Other than that, it's all about core strength. Do crunches and just get used to it.

EDIT: And be thankful you don't play tenors.

true that

i played bass for 4 years then snare for 2 years

snare hurts because its not supported by the top of the harness .. just the waist

when you angle the snare up it feels lighter .. but you cant exactly play liek that xD
