Tell us what drum company your High School/ University uses?

06-17-2008, 09:42 AM
tama... not in the poll. It's a horrible tama.. doesn't even have any badges, it's old beat up, sounds gross... Wealthy school, because we don't use any of our money, only for sports. We use some old sabians, not sure what kind they are really tarnished. I think they might be b8s or a little better, but not great.

06-17-2008, 09:44 AM
Our High School uses a Mapex Pro M right now.

06-17-2008, 09:47 AM
Dynastys FTW. Got them last season. Think Blue Devils 03.

06-17-2008, 10:07 AM
Well, I am proud to say that our beautiful new Pearl's with the brushed silver wrap are on there way to the school I work with as I type this.

06-17-2008, 10:31 AM
Pearl <3

06-17-2008, 04:34 PM
My High School uses a bunch of 70's old Ludwigs for concert band...and uses Pearl for marching band.

06-17-2008, 04:41 PM
My high school uses the ludwig free floater snares and the challenger basses, all of which are falling apart. For tenors we have C-stock pearl championship series....yay for giving all of the money to the worst football team in mass, in desperate hopes that they will get better....

06-17-2008, 11:35 PM
our drumline uses pearl championship snares (remo black max heads) basses (stock heads) and tenors (remo pinstripes) and zildjian cymbals.
we fundraise ALOOOTTT though cause our school gives us crap for money.
and a tip for the tarnish on your cymbals, ddrummer, use a zildjian cymbal polish. it makes them look like brand new.

06-18-2008, 09:40 AM
Boston University uses pearl drums... boo ya

06-18-2008, 09:41 AM
Current school uses white Yammies.

Old school uses white Pearls.

06-19-2008, 02:42 PM
We use plain white Yamahas.

06-19-2008, 05:28 PM
we use black Pearl's with white Evans (minus one Remo outdoor head: we used two snares for Indoor, and changed the heads to Evans Hybrids) heads on all our drumline. our drums used to be blue, though, and the snares had black Remo heads. we still have one snare and one set of tenors like that, though.

We use Dynasty. These drums blew us all away when we opened the boxes and tuned them. Very nice equipment.
We march 4 snares, 2 quints, and 5 basses.
I march snare.

This is a part of what is going to University of Southern Mississippi in a couple of weeks.

back in the day, schools were dealing with a musical instrument distributor. Meaning, ALL of the instruments. So, when you bought drums, you bought what the distributor had. If his drums were Ludwigs, your school had Ludwigs.

It's one of the big reasons why Ludwig has been as prominent as it was.

Distributors nowadays have expanded, as they would have to keep up with competition. Yamaha is the big brand these days, because Yamaha makes EVERYTHING, music-wise. You name it, Yamaha makes it.

Not kazoos, though, for some reason. It would've made my story oh so more poignant. Oh well.

06-20-2008, 08:06 AM
we use disgustingly bad ludwig snares and basses. The rims on the basses are twisted and bent in all sorts of ways, and the shells are nowhere near a perfect circle. The snares are tolerable, but there are only two (out of 5) that can hold their tune. For tenors we have C-stock pearl championship tenors, and they are nowhere near pretty. Can't hold a tune and the drums have a snowballs chance in hell of staying flat for more than a week. This is all due to the school giving every cent to the football team, which is in fact the WORST team in mass... go figure... maybe they think money can buy wins??

Riggghhhtttt....why did you decide to post almost the exact same information on the same thread TWICE?

06-20-2008, 10:46 AM
oh my bad, i thought the first one didn't post.. sorry

06-20-2008, 12:12 PM
we use sequoia red Pearls, I was looking for a good picture. they look amazing in the sun. Although we are due to replace them this season.

06-20-2008, 09:58 PM
At Crown in 04 & 05 we marched pearls.

The group I taught at for the last two seasons, Palmetto Percussion, currently marches Dynasty, but we did have a battery set of pearls on lone from University of South Carolina for our first season.

Opps, forgot this was the marching band forum....

My high school, and several that I have instructed or helped out at use pearl almost exclusively.

My alum- Round Rock High School- uses Silver Yamaha MTS's. My current school- Texas State University- uses Pearl Championships. Possibly Carbonplys- I don't know for sure.

06-25-2008, 10:07 PM

06-25-2008, 10:22 PM

06-28-2008, 12:37 PM
Umm Well its a combonation of ludwigs, pearls, and 1 yamaha quad.
It's pretty sad.

07-07-2008, 09:39 AM
my high school right now uses our brand new never used yet except one snare Yamahas. our drumset is pearl though, but we plan on getting a yamaha to possibly match our new marching drums. and since it's something our program uses, i'll say it, we use vic firth sticks and mallets all the way.they are awesome. they are so new we don't even have all the mounts on the snares yet and we only have 2 of the carriers put together. a snare and a bass, i think. and we start practice for marching band next week. oh yeah. our first practice will probably be just putting the stuff together.

08-09-2008, 08:28 AM
Pearl Snares
1 Pearl Tenor
2 Ludwig Tenors
2 Pearl Bass Drums
3 Ludwig Bass Drums

08-13-2008, 07:12 PM
We got new drums for the entire line last year
black Pearls grey/silver hardware Remo kevlar heads
For cymbals we've got some zildjians <3

08-20-2008, 06:52 PM
My high school used to have nice black Pearls, but over this past summer they bought $14,000 worth of perc. Its all Premier and very crappy. I cant believe they did this. Plus we never got new harnesses and the old ones are s&!t. The only thing is pit really needed it and their new stuff is pretty good but battery is crap. Now Im begging for new harnesses or else I might just buy one myself.

08-21-2008, 06:42 PM
our new drumline, drum stands, cases, and harnesses only cost about $15,000. oh and we have 4 snares, 5 basses, and 3 tenors.

08-21-2008, 07:03 PM
I picked Yamaha because thats what our snares are, and that's what I play. We have Pearl basses and tenors though.

08-29-2008, 06:13 AM
We just got a whole new set of gloss black pearls and all new carriers aswell. Haven't used them yet, though.

09-02-2008, 08:23 PM
we have silver yamahas that are just one season old. nice. but havent had the heads changed yet. just got $850 worth of heads in today. im excited :D

09-13-2008, 11:35 AM
The high school im going to next year uses Yamaha sfz that have chrome hardware and were just refinished to a silver sparkle from Drum Foundry. They use Evans hybrid heads.

11-10-2008, 06:16 AM
Yamaha SFZ snares
Yamaha Field Corps basses and quints
Zildjian Stadiums

Excellent gear, though our school spent over $2 million this year for a new FieldTurf football field... for a team that won one game this season.

11-08-2009, 10:32 PM
Youngstown State University- Black on Black Dynasties, deep-shell large block sixpacks, shorty snares, and 16, 18, 22, 24, 28 basses.

Springfield Local High School (Where I teach)- Midnight Black Pearl Championship 6-8-10-12-14 quints, 14x12 FFX snares, and 16, 18, 22, 24, 26 basses. The bottom 3 are Pearl Champiomships that were there when I was hired, I ordered the top 2 but had to go with the Competitors in Midnight Black due to budget.

yamaha field corps basses, quints, and snares

11-15-2009, 05:38 PM
Woodinville high school uses 5 14" Yamaha SFZ snares, 18-20-22-24-26 Power-Lite bass drums, Field Corps tenors (8-10-12-13), and some old Zildjian Avedis "multi-application: concert-marching-jazz" 18" cymbals. We use Evans Hybrid snare heads, MX tenor heads, and (soon to be) MX2 bass heads.
