Anyone seen/heard/played this snare? Itīs supposedly a Pearl but what line? Seller says itīs 14x4 carbonply/maple. Imagine it could sound rather good for metal.

Yep its a Masterworks. They make whole kits like that, too. Both the Erlandsson brothers play Carbonply Pearls.

Uhh, apparently they are very loud and not very versatile, but excellent for metal. I'll see if I can dig up some pics for ya mate :)

Heres one of Adrian Erlandsson's CarbonPly - Awesome stuff!

And im prett sure you can order carbon fibre as a finish on Masterworks, wheras the CarbonPly kits actually have inner and outer plys of the stuff

I'm pretty positive that thats not a masterworks, just look at the badge, I'm pretty sure that it is one of those special edition snares that is only available in Japan or someplace.

Japan Masters.
I have the US Masterworks in 14x6.5
It's a great snare, whether it is for metal music or jazz music.

Wrong, they sound like a maple drum. Very versatile.

Definately not a masterworks badge.

As for GTHO PhaseIII and his "Uhh, apparently they are very loud and not very versatile" comment. I am going to have to totally disagree! As the carbonply drums are exceptional in tonal quality! I'm not sure how anyone can make a statement like that if they have not played and/or tuned the actual drums. But to each their own!

But its definetly good to hear different, these kits kick serious arse! And Mike, as allways, your kit is a forum fav of mine! :D

I didn't know you could get the FF's in black, but that is a free floater, not a masters. i saw one on ebay a while back and i want to say they made them for a year or two back in the early 90's but were discontinued due to lack of sales, (i've heard they don't sound very good but i've never tried one personally)

That snare isn't a masterworks. It's a limited edition Japanese Carbon Ply Masters FF. I really wish we got atleast HALF of the cool limited edition things that Japan do :( But yeah, Carbon Ply drums are pretty versatile. They're just a bit louder than normal maple, with a few differences in sound. I'm actually going to be ordering a 14x3.5 Masterworks carbon ply snare in August.

Remember, Japan always get the cool and useful stuff, we just get what didn't fit the japanese shelfs :)

Japan gets the more wild setups and drums just because of their culture, and the more off the wall products sell well, america unfortunantly is very conservitive and pearl in the us has the most conservitive approach in drums for the us.
