View Full Version : How come the FF snares are vented at all?!

I just realized tonight that as far as i can tell the pearl free floaters are the only snare they make with absolutely no vent hole. Can anyone tell me why? I mean I always thought a snare with no vent would hold the air inside it and have a negative effect on the sound. Dont get me wrong, I love the sound of my brass free floater, but I wonder if it could sound just that much better with a tiny little vent hole in the back. Any thoughts?

I sold my free floater a while ago, but IIRC, while there is no vent in the shell itself, isn't there a small vent hole in the ring chassis?

As to the question regarding non-vented snare drums, I've got several wooden and one or two fibreglass snare drums with no venting at all, and they sound - and play - just fine.

There is a vent in the ring near where the snare wires terminate.

There are two vents by the snare throw offs, they are hidden very well :D
