Hi guys,

a question. I have a Black Beauty snare, 14"x5", with a Remo coated ambassador on top and a Remo ambassador snare on the bottom. The snare wires are the original ones.

Now I have a problem tuning the thing. I want a lot of crack, and quite some body in my snare sound. Also I don't want too much ring. I want to keep the batter head 'clean', I want to solve this by tuning.
How should I tune this snare? I often read about very tight heads, but: how tight is tight? And how would a medium tensioning sound like? How would you describe medium tensioning (in full turns of the bolts)?

Questions, questions, questions......

Greetings.

Crank the snare side head, and leave the batter head at medium. If you want some body to it try a 2 ply snare batter instead of 1 ply batters
