I'm starting this thread in response to the "Gretsch vs. PDP" thread that's getting a lot of replies right now, with a lot of people commenting on the good/bad qualities of PDPs.
It will interest you all to know that DW is coming out with a new line of DW drums this fall that will be made in the Ensenada factory. These will be pre-figured shell packs to compete with the higher end intermediate kits out there (Renown, MCX, etc.), with a street price of around $1700 or $1800, I think. They will have the DW name on them and are supposed to be of similar quality to the Collectors Series, but more affordable for the drummer who can't quite afford having DW make them a custom kit. How do I know all this? I heard it straight from John Good himself, as I recently attended his "Woodology" tour on its stop at Rupps Drums in Denver. John is very excited about these drums and could hardly wait for them to be released (around September/October, I think). I had the chance to speak with him for a minute, and I asked him what would come of the PDPs. He said they will now be made in an Asian/Chinese/Taiwan (can't remember which) factory. One other notable thing I remember him mentioning is that these new DWs will have smaller versions of the lugs that Collectors Series have. (John jokingly referred to them as these "cute little lugs.")
