Default My Yamaha Recording Custom kits

Hey Folks, as I'm getting older, I tend to love the sound of older drums.

These are my Yamaha Recording Custom sets.

The pics 1 & 2 show my smaller-sized kit (1988):
16x22” kick drum,
8x8, 10x10, 10x12, 11x13, 12x14” toms (for my current gigs I use the 12” & 14” toms only)
I use this kit in venues, where everything is miked.

The pics 3 & 4 show my bigger kit (1982):
14x24” kick,
9x13, 10x14, 16x18” toms (13” tom is not on pictures)
I use this kit in places (mostly in clubs) where raw power and high volume is needed, because ther’s no miking on drumset. This 24” kick drum is a real killer, and the 18” floor tom sounds like a cannon.

I mostly use my Pearl Free Floating Maple 6,5x14” snare, which I bought in 1992.

Enjoy!

Well, the hoops are natural in their original form, but the former owner was covered the original hoops with a PVC covering, which was white, but within a few years it went to this "creamy" color. I plan to remove the PVC, and stain again the hoops.

Oh man, I bet those sound fantastic! If I could ever get my hands on a Recording Custom, I think I might sell all my current kits to get one.

The old sets are usually not so expensive - though their quality is so high - I bought my big set (with the 24" kick) for about 700 $.

I like them a lot. I have a lot of respect for people that buy older drums (not necessarily vintage), and I find myself really liking some of the late 70's and early 80's drums now. If well maintained drums age very well.
