Default Adding a 12" tom

I currently own a Pearl SMX with tom sizes 8x8, 10x10, 14x14, and 16x16. I want to add the 12" because I'm constantly desiring that step between the two, wanting to move the 8" over to the left side of my rack and having it available only for tribal beats/specific fills. But I'm not sure what depth to get to fit in the sizes that I've already got.

Any advice/input?

I think a 12 x 10 would fit nicely.

12x10 seems about right, I've always thought 12x12 toms looked odd.

i'd go with a 12x12, to remain consistent with the square sizes you have on all the other toms.

I'm just wondering if that'll cause an issue with it hanging above the bassdrum, since it'll likely cause me to have to pull everything on my kit upwards.
That's always the issue with adding new things to a kit, seems you have to work your set-up around and try to make it comfortable again.

Measure the distance between your 10x10 and the bassdrum, then add half an inch for safety margin just to be sure. If you come up with 2.5 inches or more, your good. Otherwise, you may have to pull things up.

The 10x10 is already sitting pretty much on the bassdrum as is. I'm not sure though if everything on my kit should come up anyways. I'm a really tall guy, but I do have some wrist problems, so I'm wondering if it's from my wrists having to extend too far down to hit the drums, hyperextending or something.

Could be, I doubt it would hurt to try. Raise them a few inches, see what happens.

If it's less comfortable though, then definitely go the 12x10 route for positioning.

Yeah, 12x12 just seems really really deep. I would get a 12x10, just for practical reasons

I'm 6'2.. I guess I'm practically straddling the top of my snare and my toms are about an inch above that.
