I've got 6 octobans, so 6 mics for that. When I mic'd up the kit, I usually spend around 30 minutes. I'm using my MacBook C2D 2.2 with 4GB ram to record. Everything's okay to me, and there's no phase problems. I'm very happy with it. But I'm gotta upgrade my system to a mac pro system and upgrade the interfaces to 3 MOTU HD192 and a bunch of tube mic pres and outboards.

hey guys, what does anyone think about those audix d series (d2 d4 tom mics)

scince im already going to buy two d6's and two sm57's ill prolly save money buying the dp7 mic pack

i heard the D series needs very little EQ
(eliminate the need for a giant interface perhaps?)

i could just mix everything down on a submixer and use a small firepod instead of the firestudio

Thoughts?

(for the people who say i should get better quality mic's )

I use the d2/d4 combo all the time! great rock tom mics imo, the d4 is like a 421 but without the horrible spill!

what keeps you from buying 1 fp10, 2 NT5's, a D6 and an sm57 and then see how you like the results you are getting? You can add all you want if you decide you can't achieve your desired result, but if you are pleased with it you've saved alot of money.

If I had to comprihensivly do a massive kit Id probably get a Focusrite Sappire Pro 40 & run an ADAT octopre into it for a total of 16 mic ins. You can get both for about the same price as a new Digi 003 rackfactory if you look.

I do agree with -=Steve=- though, you could start off with a average setup and add what you need once you are absolutly sure. You can absolutly record a kit nicely for a lot less than a grand.

yeah, the D4 is more EQ'd off the bat, you could get somewhere with them!

I started with two kick mic, a snare mic and two overheads, too. It really helps me to learn the stereo image of the kit.

I've never tried Audix mic, but I'd love to try as there's so many good reviews about them. You may also have a look to those Sennheiser e604 3 pack. It sounds like a MD421 EQ'd for tom.
