I think they were produced from 84 to 87. They had different lugs than MLX and the Piano black kits had paint on the outside and inside. I am a big fan of 80's Pearl. But i was in my teens back then so that can be the reason.

Sorry about all the nOOb questions, but I am now smitten with this era of Pearl drums. My MX sounds like no other kit I have ever owned..amazing!
So ..did all the GLX model drums have the gripper lugs?
Finishes besides the PB did not have the shell interiors painted?

What is the likelyhood of finding a GLX rescue? I haven't had a look on fleabay yet. Are they pretty rare?

Only GLX had gripper lugs(on snare, toms and bassdrum!). Piano black had the same colour inside and outside.
There is GLX drums for sale sometimes on ebay and other places, but i have used over a year to find my drums.

The gripper lugs and paint made them more expensive than MLX. Few kits where sold and from 88 you only had MX/MLX.
Two lugs on my GLX snare have broken over the 23 years i have had it. They can be difficult to find today. I got lucky and found gripper lugs on ebay, so i could replace the broken one's. I only know of 3 kits in my country!

I saw a Tama Snare that had the change heads with a snap and I thought this was a new idea! Pearl had these in 84 to 87? What amazing kits! I couldn't find how many Maple plies. The shells look thinner than 7.5 mm 6 ply; and many people prefer thinner shells. How Many plies and what is the length of the bearing edges?

BEAUTIFULL!!!!

Wow, I used to always have power toms, but now when I see em they just bring me down. Always thought those Pearl tom mount arms looked stupid (still do), but especially so when theyre extra long like that. Nice finishes though.

BEAUTIFULL!!!!

The shells are 6 ply Maple, i am not sure about the bearing edges.
Remo also had quick release lugs in the late 80's.
Pearl only used quick release lugs on the GLX series. They are really heavy and in the 25 years i have had my GLX snare i have had to replace 2 of the lugs because the metal in them cracked!
They are really hard to find if you need to replace them.
