Jutt8 Ryan, solid playing and the drums sound really good. What are you using to record with? The recordings could be a little more crisp and clear, but one of the files sounded like it was done live.

All and all great job and hang on to your MBX, they are fantastic as you already know.
thanks for the comments.

The first two were recorded live too. I had a seperate mix ran in from our soundboard into my sony field recorder (sony pcm-d50) which handles stuff nicely if "lined in." The 3rd song was recorded live with the same sony recorder, but not lined in....just used the built-in condenser mics. Which is why you get a lof ambience and cymbals. The way we're set up the recorder is actually above the range of the speakers, I've recorded once with it at same level of the speakers and it sounded so much better than this.

yes they are great. I've been looking for a larger set, but may end up just buying some 4ply birch shells from a manufacturer and building a set since i don't want to fork out the cash for a new BMP set. If something comes up on ebay for a good price, i won't hesitate to go after them though!

Jeff, your kit looks amazing as usual!!! Very Bonham inspired. You need a ching ring, congas or timpani to your left, a cowbell mounted on the kick, and a nice gong just offset to the right behind you.

I currently play Pearl's 6 ply maple shell but am looking to upgrade to a Masters Premium. I seriously think it's going to be the BMP as having played both, thin birch shells sound better than thin maple. Thin maple shells can sound 'muddy,' but thin birch retains the sustain and resonance of the thin shell, with the clarity and projection of birch. Best of both worlds. I will probably go with the 6 ply bass drum however. Combined with my 6 ply maple masterworks snare drum the kit should sound excellent.

Rad that sounds like a great idea. I've not heard the 4 ply Birch drums live, but Jutt swears by them. I'd love to find a older 4ply Birch kit in Natural finish so can mix and match with my BRX.

I say go with the BMP.

Thanks Justin, as much as I'd like to look like Bonham, I can never PLAY like him. Besides, the more stuff I add to my kit the more I tend to over play and get the dreaded "look" from my band mates.

Jeff has one of the nicest natural birch kits I have ever seen. The contrast of the mineral streaks in the wood is very serious, and it gives the wood a tiger stripe appearance, which I love. Mine aren't nearly as drastic (wish they were), but I hope that changes with time. Do you know if yours were lighter when they were brand new Jeff and if they got darker over time?

Thanks Justin, I'm not sure about the finish. I bought the kit in 06, and Donn ordered the it at the end of 99. I would think the finish would change over time, but I don't know that for fact. I wonder if Al can shed some light on the subject ? ?

Default new Masters MBX kit

New to forum, and to pearl drums! here are pics of my new kit. Now I gotta decide what I am going to do to it! Thinking of putting a fiberskyn powerstroke 3 as a reso with no port on the massive 18x24 kick for when I play them at home and using the current head for live gigs. Any opinions?

KILLER and welcome aboard grumpyoletroll. 24x18 I've never played one--I'm sure it sounds incredible. If it's sounding too boomy, you may need to throw a little more muffling in there. The fibreskin is a great idea too. I have not used one, but Phips has and loved it I think. You should be rockin dude.
