Thinking of wrapping my kit... cause itīs hard to find toms and stuff that fits in color, and the finnish isnīt in very good condition (some scratches etc)...
But Iīll try out trick drumpolish first and see how it works...

Oh Lord, putting a wrap on that beautiful kit sounds like a bad idea to me, but in the end they are your drums. Tell me about this polish you want to use. Where can you buy it and does it buff out scratches and so forth? If you had the patience and time to refinish your kit with a lacquer, now that would be the way to go. I know I've seen refinishing threads on this forum that could help you get started. Oh man, a wrap just makes me cringe---sorry. The cool thing about your kit too is that you cannot get your finish anymore so that makes it kind of unique don't you think? Justin

And to refinnish? To sand the finnish down completly and then repaint it? The finnish is incredible, i would never manage to make it look good... :P But do u have a link to the refinnishing threads?

Hey guys just posting because i have one of these and love it....the previous owner converted the 18" floor to a kick. It's got a pretty good sound too, but the toms, i love them! my favorite kit i 've played on. May sound crazy, but I actually sold my reference kit because i liked the sound of these more. found the MBX's on ebay for $400 (12x10, 15x13, & 18x16 kick) vs the price for the reference kit that i was just as happy with. I actually took the 12x10 and cut down to a 12x8, saved the original ring and epoxy'd it back on. Came out really nice.
I'm not picking on the reference line, it's just my opinion and what i'm looking for for the kind of bands play with normally. I have some live sound clips with music and all. and also some recorded on my field recorder if ya'll are interested too. ryan |

ok here ya go,
these were recorded "line in" into my sony field recorder. with a rough mix for that sunday morning. i'll list below what i was using. (excuse the ringy snare sometimes I had just gotten it) OH YEAH, bring on the criticism...I take it as constructive not personanl. I do know i rush and drag my fills and speed up slow down a bit.....I use a metronome live now, so I've got it under control. and feel a lot more confident too.Pearl Masters MBX 12x8 15x13 22x18 sessions Birch (6ply) 14x6.5 D.C. snare Paiste Traditionals 15" medlight hats 20" light ride 20" medlight ride 22" medlight ride http://www.4shared.com/file/96994075...090406_03.html http://www.4shared.com/file/96993337...090406_01.html I was thinking the field recorder picked up stuff better with the built-in mics.....it doesn't sound bad though, just a lot of ambience. http://www.4shared.com/file/93163547...090309_07.html Pictures of them are in my signature....18 & 22 kick drums. |

oh yeah, i use evans G2 clears on batter sides and clear resos on bottom.
I have had coated G2 coated on the batter sides. I liked them a lot. I don't have a preference on coated or clears. They both sound great! If i remember correctly i had the coated g2's during these recordings. Both were easy to tune up and make these sound great. I think i'll go back to the coated in a few weeks and buy some G1's for the bottoms. ryan |

Ryan, solid playing and the drums sound really good. What are you using to record with? The recordings could be a little more crisp and clear, but one of the files sounded like it was done live.
All and all great job and hang on to your MBX, they are fantastic as you already know.
