Default How do you pronounce Paiste?

    Sorry guys,

I was arguing with my mate about the pronounciation of "Paiste"

    Is it "paste"

    Or is it "Pay-stee"

    Or is it "Py-stee"?

Everyone I talk to seems to have a different opinion.
Looked on the Paiste website and saw that its origin is Estonian.

    Thanks
    Pearl, Paiste, Evetts

Not to sound rude or anything, but there are tons of threads covering this topic. No need for another one

Yeah seriously, this topic ALWAYS gets nasty. It's been done so many times I literally lost count. Do a search for PRONOUNCE + PAISTE and you'll see.

Well, the Paiste Company is located in Switzerland where they speak a german dialect. So it is pronounced Py-stuh.

Nils from Germany next to Switzerland.
Believe me, it is "BASSDRUM", not "BASEDRUM".

Huh, it was working for me too, seems the forum doesn't keep search result pages logged for too long.

Anyways, it's been about twenty threads since loudly declared that it's "PIE-STEE." Pay-stee is what hookers cover their boobs with. It's also not py-stuh, paste, pizza, pasta or other edible ingredient.

Note also that Paiste are an Estonian family, referring to the pronounciation of the name being phonic as in most of the fenno-ugric languages spoken in the Baltic countries, so no way can one claim it being pronouced German.

Go to http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/John_Bonham.html and watch the Quick-time clip of Jeff Ocheltree. You'll hear him clearly pronounce Paiste the way it's supposed to be pronounced according to Paiste themselves.
