    Default Terry Williams (Dire straits)

If I'm not mistaken he played in Dire Straits from 82-88/89, which means he played on Brothers in Arms (Omar Hakim contributed a bit as well)

I haven't seen too many DS-threads on here, and I was wondering if anyone knows what cymbal brand Terry used when he was in straits. Any info would be great. Thanks

It sucks that you can't find any info about him on Wikipedia (I'm serious)
I think he was pretty good!

    Was just listening to it!

I just discovered a Paiste-logo on one of the gongs in the "Walk of life"-video, so I've sent an email to Paiste. Hopefully they'll know a thing or too.

His drum kit was insane. A billion toms, crashes and rides everywhere, lots of floor toms to the right and left in front of two massive gongs...

on close inspection of the 'ALCHEMY' CD booklet,he appears to be using ludwig and paiste.i think the drumming on alchemy is cool and i remember,as a spotty youth, playing along to the live version of telegraph road (which has some amazing guitar playing BTW) which i owned on vinyl, but the vibration from my bass drum would make the needle on my very cheap record deck jump.its how i learnt odd time

what i thought was very kool, was my music teacher in my school was in a band with the dire straits drummer (he plays bass)
    Kit Count-
    Hohner Stage- Nice first kit
Session Pro- Not as good as hohner, bad sounding.
Yamaha Stage Custom- An amazing kit for price.
Mapex Saturn- Nice kit, great sound.
Sonor Delight- Great Looks, nice hardware.

He used Ludwig and Paiste while he was with Dire Straits. He was an endorser of Paiste cymbals. He later moved to Remo drums.

The toms were 14, 15, 16 ,18 & 20 with a 22" kick and (I think) 14x5 and 14x6 metal snares. The cymbals were from the 2oo2, Sound Creation, 5o5 lines and there was a RUDE china too.

I have a breakdown of the cymbals somewhere and if I remember I'll dig it out.

Re the BIA album, I think you'll find Omar Hakim played most of the album and not Terry. Terry said in an interview that he wasn't really a studio drummer, but it's definately him doing the fills on Money For Nothing

Thanks^. And thanks, everyone else. I thought this thread was dead after my 2nd post. His drums sounded HUGE. It's really cool that he used 505s. We're all saying like "Yeah, Paiste Alphas are great", but we don't play them if we can get something more expensive.

Yeah, I knew that Omar Hakim made a great participation on this album. Has anyone watched the Live Aid performence of MFN featuring Sting? I think you'll find it on youtube. I love it.

Was that guy in pink only playing the tamburine on the entire tour? He's in all the old Promo vids. Jack Sonni (the rythm guitarist) looks really stupid and really cool at the same time...

Edit: Hey! On the last pic in Bumhead's post he's using both Paiste 2000s and Zs!
