Exclamation How to make your own RUTE sticks - They work great, and they are dirt cheap!

    Hi!
I just got a church gig, and I though to myself: "I need some RUTE sticks".
Then I went to my local music store, checked them out - they were very expensive and were NOT comfortable (for I guy like me who can't stand larger sticks than 7A, haha).
So I went to a local supermarket, and suddenly I saw some 10-packs with flowersticks. They cost me around 10 kroners each (Approx. 1 dollar each), and I got some gaffa tape from home and started working.
They work BETTER than the original Vic Firth IMHO! They are more comfy for me, since I'm used to 7A sticks, and they sound just as good!
Check out the pictures (Well, they may look cheap, but hey - can't be picky for 2 dollars! And you can make them look good if you take your time! )

Very intersting. I find myself in the same predicament. Maybe I'll try it out.

Did the same thing a long time ago, cool that you did it the same way, they tend to brake faster than the Vic Firth's though, just gaffa'em up good hehe

Yeah, they brake a bit faster... But hey, I think the Vic Firth ones brake pretty fast too, so you got to be careful anyway! But I use those kind of sticks on slow, quiet songs. So I really don't need to play that hard!

I've actually done the exact same thing some years ago, and I still have a couple of pairs left. Works perfectly!

Hopefully many people will pick up on this, it's well worth the, well, ridiculously little amount of money you need to spend.

    Good thinking, Zorlee

Just like any other sticks, you mean? Of course they could. And they will, eventually. In the end it's made out of the same material, but for a 10th of the cost.

    Hehe, thanks!
Well, yeah, you don't use any money at all, compared to new RUTE sticks...
And I don't use them that often, so I don't care I snap a pair after a year

And Duck3ers: Well, I can take some kit pictures, but I haven't upgraded my kit since the last time I posted pics of my kit

I just came up with an idea!!! Would Heat Shrink wrap work on the wood to tighten up the dowels at all? I'll have to try that and see!
