Has anyone used, or is anyone using electronic triggers on acoustic drums as an alternative to microphones?
I have always played my own set with sound companies coming in and miking it for performances. Recently I hooked up with a group that plays clubs and other small venues. They have been using an older Export stuffed with foam and triggers mounted to the deadened batter heads. There's no mikes for cymbals either, purely acoustic. It sounds reasonable, but seems so unnatural.
How about it? Anyone tried it? Seems a cheap alternative to mikes, but I can't imagine doing it for long.
