Hello, I just Bought an SRX custom maple set....everything is paid for....woohooo......but i havent brought them home yet due to fisheyes and other defects in the finish that could harm my drums later on... I love the way the drums sound.....but having fish eyes, and what looks like porousity, wont heat and moisture cause the clear and maybe the color to "pop up" or peel? Does the pearl warranty cover this? The drums are awsome, i would be glad to bring them home and leave my dealer and pearl alone if i knew how the warranty dealt with this.....please help.
Jeremy:)

If you feel like the drums are defective in any way then it's best to deal with the issue before they leave the store, which is what it sounds like you're doing, and you can't be blamed for it. The dealer should be able to determine or have someone at Pearl help them determine if the finish is defective or will cause a problem in the future. If you're not satisfied with the cosmetic appearance of the drums and you've shelled out some cash for them, which around here the 5-piece kit with hardware is like $1500-1600, then that issue has to be dealt with accordingly, either by exchanging them with a like finish to your liking, or discounting the current kit if it's determined that no harm would come to the shells in the future due to flaws in the finish.

hell yeah JMax...if the defective drums you bought haven't left the store yet, have the store contact Pearl for replacements. That's what a dealer does to earn the profit he's making off you.

I have an SRX also, and I examined every square inch of every drum before they came home with me. The guys at the store were absolute GIMPS. I was amazed they hadn't messed something up on the finish - judging by the way they had assembled the other drums in there - Whoa!

Get the drums right or walk away with your money.

Definitly DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED!! I had the same prob when mine came in but the shop owner caught it right away..But then..It was gonna be another 6 weeks to get a replacment..I told the owner I waited long enough(12 weeks) and wasn't going to wait any longer..I did not know this before but he was tight with some of the brass down at Pearl in TN. 1 phone call and 2 weeks later, I was upgraded from a sessions to a prestige sessions select for free:) I dont know if anything would happen like that to you but get it all clear before leaving that shop first...Good Luck

Well I got mine in '97...dont think they had a sessions custom then? I could be wrong tho...They had the sessions, sessions select, and prestige sessions select...The main difference were the new(at that time) was the ISS mounts and all double-braced hardware...I was a little leary from buying from this shop to until i found out the owners connections..I'll tell ya this...I was just as anxious as you but man Its worth the wait:) Hang in there

The Prestige Session Select (SRX) features mahogany shells with inner and outer plies of maple for fantastic low end punch, great upper-mids and tremendous attack. Value-priced, the SRX shares many features of the Masters Series, including the same superior quality lacquered finishes, spurs, floor tom legs, and Remo heads.

Session Custom Series features 100% Maple shells for a superior warm tone.

I'm with you! Also, note that both the Session Custom and Prestige Session have SRX as the prefix. So be careful which series you are getting.

Example 1 (http://www.drummersparadise.com.au/drumkits/pearl/prestigesession.html)
Example 2 (http://www.americandrumshop.com/PearlDrumSetPages/Drprest.html)

I may be wrong, but starting in 2001, Pearl only had the Sessions Custom available and discontinued the Prestige Custom line altogether. So the Prestige set you mentioned is several years old.

I have the Session Custom in Vintage Fade, 6-piece.
5 X 14 snare
8 X 10 rack tom
9 X 12 rack tom
12 X 14 rack tom
16 X 16 floor tom
18 X 22 bass

Oh crap!

I just ordered a Fusion SRX shell pack at my music store in a Cranberry Fade finish. I never liked the sound of Mahogany, but I love Maple drums. Is there a possibility that I got the wrong one? I wanted maple but the inner plies are a little darker than the outer plies, but the side of the drums say 'Session Custom'

Did I get the right kit?

The guy at the store said it was 100% maple and Dennis Chambers had played the same kit. Thats why I bought it. Well, that, AND they were the best drums I could find in my price range. I guess that if he said it was 100% Maple, then it is.

Hey....as far as i understand.....the new SRX are 100% maple.....the dark layers in the center are class c maple, and the outer layers are class b......Pearl is awsome......The problem i had is already being taking care of.....According to my dealer, pearl is supposed to send me other SRX customs, in marine fade blue.....WooooHooooo!!!!! Now i just have to wait patiently. I wasnt worried to much if pearl would do anything....they have a good name and reputation.....i just wasnt sure what i should do....Thank you all for your help! Drum On!!:D
