I don't care about pics, just want my fricken drums!
Me too! I have hope it will be worth the wait.I have never ordered drums before. I found kit's in the store.Everyone says it takes time.I ordered 20 x16 12x9 14x14 floor and 14x6.5 I dont think you would ever find this kit sitting in a store.not in Tampa anyway.

Well you might find those sizes but you would also get the 10x8. That is the shell pack I bought. Then I added the snare, 8" and 16 FT. They would never let you break up a shell pack.
Incidentally Wood, why didn't you just go with the shell pack? You basically would have gotten the 10" for free or very little money.
Just wondering.

Im in the same boat guys. I spoke with the salesman who worked with me and he said "I need to be patient"....with a smirk on his face. Im at the point now where Ive at least stopped calling the store every other day. I think im over the impatient, salivating, goofy stage I was in for about a month. I , like jpcdrummer, want my damn drums!
Well' when I ordered my kit I could afford the shell pack but not the snare and I really wanted the snare. I mean I really maxed my visa as it is but there are worse things you can spend money on.

Gotcha! I didn't do the math, just assumed it wouldn't be that much different.
BTW, what color did you order? I went with the granite sparkle but have had some second thoughts about it since. That is one of the problems with these long wait times with ordered equipment - you can easily change your mind seventeen times (per day) in the 6 months it takes to get your stuff.
As for ordering drums, this is the 4th set I've ordered sight unseen from Pearl. You won't be disappointed. And if for some reason you are, they will take care of you.
No doubt the waiting sux. I called about mine today and was told they are scheduled to ship in about two weeks. I am at the point that I don't think they will ever come.
They'll get here, yep, the wait can be punishing at times, but after hearing these puppies at some of the Reference tour stops, I'm ready to order myself some as well..... and yes, I'll have to wait too. No special treatment for Pearl employees.
I think I'm going with Granite Sparkle, I just like the way it looks under the lights, Purple craze is my second choice.... but I'm pretty sure I want the Granite Sparkle.
I've only got about another $600.00 to put away before I place the order. I wasn't going to replace the MHX's, and I love the MHX's, but I love the Reference drums even more. I keep telling myself that these drums will make me a better drummer... I know it's not true, but it sounds good.
yea' I know what you mean about changing your mind. I ordered the purple craze because I already have a silver sparkle yamaha kit. But granite was my next choice.I think if I had to do it again I would have ordered a master works set with the same ply configeration and edges but picked my own finish. Not really any price differance that I can tell. Any way have you seen a top of the line Mapex kit like orion? if you have you know how the tom mount is free floating and so are the bass drum spurs.I wish pearl would get hip to that. I ordered my kik drum with no mount because it seems wrong to drill more than you have to.But tom mounts on bass drums sure are easyer to deal with.

I'm down with that bass drum assessment Wood. I debated that one for quite a while since I've never had a bass drum sans mounting capability. However, I have decided that I can always install one if I really want but that taking it off is not possible.
As for the color, I have a wine red BRX so that means no scarlet fade, and a platinum mist MRX so that takes care of copperfire sparkle to some degree. The root beer fade looks orange under the lights and I have sworn off black since I have had MLX and BLX kits in black in the past. That leaves purple and granite. No offense to all the purple fans out there but there is no way I am buying a purple kit. I'll admit I did think about it when it looked blue on the video but I thought, in ten years, I would regret that decision. They have a Purple sparkle MMX kit with black hardware at the shop I frequent and they can't give the thing away. So that leaves granite and it will look amazing under the lights. I totally agree with Hook on that one. In 10 or 15 years, it will still look good. No regrets mate!
Haven't seen the orion kit you mentioned. I'll have to check that out.

must admit - im really lookin forward to seeing these! Heard lots about them, but seen no original pictures yet!...
My wife said "dont get purple you'll hate it" maybe but I keep a drum set for about 2 2 and a half years and than turn'm.So if I dont like them it wont be long. All my other kit's are kind of boring. If I was going to get a mrx it would be in purple storm. But not with black hardware on anything ever. or gold. yea I bought a black kit once I hated it. I guess I thought I steve godd or something.I saw the Root's live the other night questlove had a cool set of yamaha's in apple fade sparkle.

I suspect you won't want to flip these ref drums in 2 years. I firmly believe they are keepers. But, who's to say, since nobody has actually taken ownership.
I tend to buy stuff for the long haul. I kept my last car for 13 years. I did totally flip my drum inventory in '01 and '02 but that was a bit of an anomaly because I downsized from 24" bass drums to 22"s. Normally I would keep the stuff until it died.

I just got a P.O. from the purchasing department, there are 36 Reference kits on a boat right now, it should be hitting the west coast in a week or so. They are almost here.
well I kinda look at drums as tools I use to make money. I sell stuff while it still has value. As you know used drums dont do well.I like keeping snare drums though.Im also in the market for new cymbals.I have a crash that I used to love than it just went sour over night.Im not a heavy hitter but road work just kills stuff.I think transporting gear is where your drums get the most beating.JPC what is your carbon snare like?

I TOTALLY agree with you about most of the wear coming from the moving and setting up/tear down. I don't really make a tremendous amount of money with my drums though. Doubt I will ever make the money back I have put into equipment. But hey, hope springs eternal.
The carbon fiber snare, well, it is the most amazing drum I have ever had. If you like a tight snare sound, it sounds fabulous. To me, it is like a cross between a wood and a metal shell. They didn't sell too well aparently. I got mine for $515 or about a third of list. Mine was made in 2000 and I bought it last year so that ought to tell you they were not moving. The story I got was the $800 price tag was just too high. But I tell you, it is a sweet sounding drum and can be quite loud if you want. I recently used it for recording and I like the outcome.
It has a much larger sweet spot than my wooden snares. Good for those of us without repeated accuracy :)
